After an afternoon walkabout in the rain with my K10D and FA50, I'm really tempted by the DA*55mm, cos it was a total pain trying to keep the FA50 dry(ish). I love this lens for a walkabout, but the lack of weather-sealing was a definite negative point for me yesterday.

I don't mind subjecting it to drizzle and occasional light rain, but it was p*ssing down yesterday.

I can see I'll be popping over to Watford later in the year for a try out, unless someone (Cameraworld) has one in stock nearer to home.

After a bit of Googling, I found this page :

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20081005024841AAGUF75

Which led me to this one:

And subsequently this one:

Pretty sure it's a Green Lynx Spider, or a close relative. Think that first page was a hoax!

P.S. Lovely shots of it.

Daniel, this picture is for you! You obviously didn't realise how dangerous the stepping stones were, so much so that locals take special precautions when crossing...
It didn't help that the stones were just a bit further apart than you'd really want them to be, even with my long legs, and there was a wobbly one a third of the way across.

Now, you may be aware that I'm not often that keen on HDR images, but interiors of churches and cathedrals seem to look quite spectacular using the technique. Love the look of your's John, the woodwork really glows, and the detail's good in the window. It's certainly not a natural looking image, but it works I think. Nice one.

Surely they should have realised they'd have been better off just buying a Pentax camera to put on that lens!

Bolton Abbey's great isn't it John (I realise the shot you posted is Fountains Abbey), we were there a few weeks back and I got some shots of the stepping stones over the river. Didn't realise: the river was going to be quite so deep; the stones were quite so far apart; the camera would suddenly seem very vulnerable, especially as I was carrying it on a tripod too.

Should get round to posting them...

By the way John, I would be tempted to straighten your pic up a bit.

hi i've got it listed on ebay...
If it's already listed on ebay, then it shouldn't be offered here (other than as a link to that auction).

I can also highly recommend the DA* 300mm for wildlife, as long as it's approachable enough. There's a 'super-telephoto' in the pipeline, but who know when that might appear, or what it actually is... Still, there are Sigma alternatives if 300mm isn't long enough, as well as older Pentax lenses.

Checked this thread out on the LCD screen at work today, and things certainly looked different to my calibrated (CRT) monitor at home. The sea did look a bit lurid in the first shot, and everything looked a lot more vivid.

Not sure whether it's an LCD v CRT thing, or a calibrated v non-calibrated. I suspect it's the second.
