I also remember reading about early mechanical calculators shaped rather like a pepper mill - you set the calculation by turning rings on the device then wound a handle on top to perform it?

Presumably the Pentax one requires a smaller person to wear it?

I keep meaning to get a shot of my MX next to a friend's Sony full frame thing for comedy value.

I think slide rules have become an interesting curiosity, much like those of us still shooting slide film and occasionally projecting the results.

Talking of which, the KX seems to have survived its freezer treatment perfectly. Finished the roll of film and posted it today, now to see if it survived too! I know people keep film in freezers so it should be ok, as it was brought back to room temperature before any film movement occurred.

I suspect that the more expensive AF lenses have an "exact" infinity stop while the cheaper models don't. I know I cleaned some fungus from the front of an old F 80-200mm a while ago which had a lot of play between the marked infinity and the actual end stop.

Made it interesting trying to set infinity focus properly after cleaning it!

TBH with the 28/3.5 on the K-m I just used to leave it on infinity and f8. Most subjects would then be in focus by the time I was far enough away to get them in the frame.

I am now having to get used to actually focussing it on the KX, as without the crop factor there's a lot more frame to fill!

Thanks, I'll give that a go too. I haven't had to dismantle too much of the camera yet, as this is a very tidy example I'm worried about marking screwheads and similar.

Need to check my KX too. It spent a few hours bagged in the freezer after I noticed a dust mite wandering around in the viewfinder, then overnight in the airing cupboard to make sure it was fully defrosted and dry. The metering seems fine but I've yet to try winding on and taking a photo.

I would suspect that it's cheaper for them to take money via direct debit than it is to accept credit cards. I know retailers are charged when they take a card payment.

I'm just wondering if this could be something along these lines:

AF360 knows it is running as a wireless slave and sets power output accordingly. However, it doesn't know that the "master" flash is much less powerful than it is, so the result is underexposed?

The main thing with the AF200 series flashguns is that the head isn't really the right shape to fit one of the larger softbox-type diffusers - it doesn't stick out far enough from the body.

Pentax themselves made wide angle and telephoto adapters for this flashgun - have a look for the Dimitrov K-Mount Site to find the part numbers if you want to keep an eye open for the genuine parts.

I'm not sure how consumer protection works there, but I'd have thought you'd have a claim under the EU laws relating to goods being of reasonable quality assuming that you're the first owner?

I have seen a guide to DIY repairs of SDM lenses which I would probably try first if mine failed out of warranty. It basically involved unscrewing the lens mount and wiggling the SDM motor with a screwdriver to un-stick it. Given I've had A-series and AF lenses apart before now (and reassembled them in full working order) I doubt it would be that much harder, and if it didn't work I'd just reassemble and send it for a professional fix.
