A good idea, with the caveat that feedback should not be posted until the seller has had a chance to sort things out (in event of a problem). If you've posted a camera which worked perfectly when it left you, and despite your wrapping it in multiple layers of bubble wrap it still arrives non-functional, it's a bit unfair to immediately have a black mark against your name before you can come to an agreement with the buyer as to how to proceed.

If you want decent photos with an unobtrusive camera then a black MX/ME Super and 40mm pancake lens are hard to beat. Will fit in a shoulder bag that looks nothing like a camera case, plus to the casual observer it looks like a compact.

So the postman came today with a package. Addressed to me.
Funny I thought, I haven't ordered anything. Oh maybe a birthday present??

So I open the package. Yes a birthday present, but not mine. My son's. His wife ordered it and paid for it, using their address, in a completely different town to us, at the other end of the country. And yet it was delivered here.

I phoned him and told him I had his present, and he was going to phone the shop and give them a bollocking.

I ordered something from the same shop last year, so I am in their database, and they sent it to the wrong person.

Luckily it came to me, and didn't go to some total stranger

He'll have to wait even longer for his present now as he is back sailing for the next two weeks and I won't be able to get it to him.
I can beat that one...

Many years ago Mum ordered my birthday present from a well-known model train dealer. It arrived, then a few months down the line a load of stuff she hadn't ordered at all turned up. It appeared that they were keeping personal details including card numbers on file (which they shouldn't have been doing in the first place) and had picked the wrong customer data out - fairly impressive data protection breach!

The shop has since closed due to the retirement of the owners.

The sad thing I find is how they inevitably split up items. I've even seen them sell the little plastic blanking plugs from PC sockets separately!

I like to seek out original caps for my older lenses, and the matching hoods where possible. These are classic items now and selling them off in bits just seems wrong.

50-60% doesn't always work, where lenses are concerned they won't haggle by more than a few quid in my experience.

I think this is the motor wind for the KX/KM MOT version, hopefully the buyer has the correct camera to fit it to. I had a bid (don't have the camera, but it had no bidders with 20mins left so thought I'd have a go) but lost out in the final seconds. An unusual piece of gear!

I nearly bid on a Spotty today until I noticed two things - missing triangular strap lugs and the blurb "In good cosmetic condition"!

Still keeping eyes open for a tidy, working example with or without lens for around £20. I have a near mint Super Tak 35mm f3.5, ever ready case, and original leather strap to suit one but lack the camera body to tie all of those together.
I got lucky recently with a good condition SP F on the 'bay for £12. It can still happen.

What is the volume of a standard lens anyway?
Yep, they made so many Spottys that I'll keep my eyes open, it'll happen sooner or later. I'm not fussed about a lens (already got a perfect 35mm waiting for it) which should mean I can find one that few others are interested in.

Thanks for the offer Tony, but I'm really after a chrome one rather than black and I doubt I could offer a fair price at the moment!

Your best bet is probably to get hold of an OS map of the area and look for locations where a public right of way crosses or comes close to the line. Bear in mind that you're not allowed to just hop over a wall and across an empty field to get closer. You may also find the location has been staked out by the stepladder and giant tripod brigade, especially if you pick one which is very close to a road.

Please also go to the railway and spend a few quid there - I know there's a lot of grumbling in the preserved railway world about people who turn up, take photos, but don't spend anything to help keep it running. Even if you just buy a cuppa and a sandwich in the cafe you're helping, and the food in those is usually reasonably priced and excellent!

Paid £50 for mine, it is pretty much mint though. Very handy if you want to do some discreet architectural studies, fit it to a black ME S equipped with a wrist strap and you can cradle it in a hand against your hip while walking about. The length and speed enable you to fill the frame with interesting details without any blur problems from shooting handheld.

I didn't originally realise that we were talking about the M version as opposed to the K, which is a much larger lens.

Why couldn't the canonite just have bought a K series?

These are, however, the same idiots currently trying to sell a used FA77 for more than they cost new.
I actually managed to get a couple of items from them for fair prices in the past few days - a couple of original K series lens caps for £6 and £5 respectively. The fact that those were best offers when the buy it now price was a tenner is a hint at how their pricing structure works.

I know £6 is still steep for a lens cap, but the crinkly-finish ones are almost impossible to find elsewhere. My K 28mm f3.5 and K 28-50mm now have original caps for both ends, which look and function much better than the generic ones.

I wondered if anyone was bidding on that - was amazed it didn't go for more! It's a very sought-after lens.

It would even be worth having it professionally serviced to remove the ding and repair any faults, considering how much they are new (still available to special order IIRC?) It's probably the last survivor of the K series, as Pentax kept the optical design when they switched to the A version.
