I still love the previous Warburtons advert with the music from "Air Force One" playing as they load the bread and send the lorries out.

Stop down metering is when the camera stops the lens down to the selected aperture, then takes a light meter reading and suggests a shutter speed on that basis. In my experience it's accurate down to about f11, smaller apertures tend to produce bad underexposure.

To use it you fit a manual lens, select "M" mode, set your chosen aperture on the lens and then press either the green button or the exposure compensation ( +/- button) depending on which camera you have. You'll hear the swish as the camera stops down and the viewfinder will go dim, then brighten again as the lens opens back up. After that you can use digital preview to check the exposure will be correct or just try a shot.

I thought it was Barber's Adagio?

This might be something to do with that dubious mod I've seen to convince the camera that it's dealing with an A series lens (involved shorting body contacts with foil IIRC?)

I've never bothered. My old lenses work perfectly well in M mode with stop-down metering and I'm not inclined to fiddle about.

I got one too - evidently I've been active in enough threads recently to make it worth their while spamming.

I think there's a bit of a difference between aggressive paparazzi stuffing their cameras into people's faces to make a few quid and being hassled for quietly taking photos in a public place without obstructing anyone though. After reading the IMDB entry for that film it sounds as though the subject was one of the obnoxious stalker types who give photojournalists a bad name.

If you annoy someone in a bar and they eventually thump you, the court will take account of that provocation. There's little difference between that and the cases of paparazzi getting clobbered by their targets other than the fact that one party has a camera. However, the clueless PCSOs (and it always seems to be PCSOs) trying to order people to stop shooting/delete images/give their details are more like the bar brawler who belts someone having a quiet drink in the corner over the head with a bottle for no apparent reason beyond "not liking their face"!

Hmm, it's not likely to be a problem as the superglue fix just isn't working (it turned into a thick paste rather than setting, also it has gone opaque)!

New projector it is then - will see what I can find in a week or so.

In my experience lighter fluid or WD40 will remove most foam goo without damaging glass or paintwork, providing you don't scrub at it with something rough. Obviously not suitable for focusing screens!

I know, I was amazed to see anything with a Leica badge that cheaply. I guess so few people want slide projectors now that it isn't worth their while asking more.

I don't really need one as I can scan the slides, but I'd like a decent projector as you can see so much more detail on the big screen than you can from blowing up the results from a fairly cheap scanner. It's fine up to about A4 but that can't compete with projecting them 4ft high on the screen.

I'm currently attempting a repair to the slide projector.

I've ground out the melted bubbly bit from the plastic lens and filled the hole with superglue, inspired by car windscreen repairs. I don't think it'll work but I've got nothing to lose by trying!

Failing that I note that it's possible to buy a mint little-used Leica projector (which takes the magazines we already have a pile of) for about £40.
