Well, I can't be right all the time. Sue says some of the time would help....
Circumstances evolve and I'm now a very happy full frame user. Who knew?

DON'T BUY PENTAX DIGITAL LENSES.
The reason is that these lenses can't be used on analog bodies and on future full-frame sensor digital bodies. The great advantage of Pentax was the compatibility among their products. Where is it now?
And not only this. Every TTL flash by Pentax doesn't cooperate with digital bodies from DL and then.
Pentax K100, K110, DL, K10 can not use TTL technology, but P-TTL instead.
Ok, Pentax your customers bought FTZ-500 for 400€. Some other have Pentax 330, some other Metz, etc.
My friends "DON' T BUY ANY PENTAX LENSES, UNLESS THEY ARE COMPATIBLE WITH THE OLDER BODIES"
I am terribly sorry about it, but we must answer to the technical faults of Pentax.
What brand should I buy? name one company out there that hasn't had a model or product line that got changed or discontinued? More specifically, name one company, in the SLR Camera business that has a better record than Pentax for backward compatibility? If Pentax breaks it's line up into ff and aps sensors, why shouldn't I buy digital lenses for my ds2 or k10's? And if a ff dslr comes out in the near future, do I have to buy it? no. will there be an aps model available? yes. If I can afford the ff body, will my older ff pre dslr lenses work? bet on it! will they tide me over til I buy newer ff lenses? I'd bet on it.
You why are you so dogmatic about bashing Pentax? go buy a canon, or a nikon...(might want to check thier records on back/forward compatibility first though...)
now, back to a more interesting subject:
10 print "Don is Great";
20 gosub 40
30 goto 10
40 int a =rnd 3
50 if a=1 then print "! ";
60 if a=2 then print "!! ";
70 if a=3 then print "!!! ";
80 endsub
back in the day, that was a sophisticated program, written by a genius!
he was right... there is a fine line of aps-c models to choose from, and plenty of lenses with compatibility..and k1 is a cmos sensor is it not? no ccd sensors since k10

at a pro level I rarely ever use af while recording video...
you just can't beat the manual focus "feel" of the older lenses that are designed for manual focus.
guys with newer lenses be buying a "follow focus" rig with "gear reduction" to get "precise feel" on the newer lenses and I am standing there with a light weight set up pulling focus with an old lens that has the aperture ring "de-clicked" and able to rack focus just fine...
plan your shot, mark your start and end points and you'll nail the focus more often than your actors will ever "Hit their marks" which is the main cause of "out of focus" shots anyways.
if you want/need to use AF during a run and gun event, you're better off with a dedicated video camera anyways. save the d-slr shots for shots you can plan if you want a cinematic shot there is no substitute for planing, lighting and composing... and you don't need AF for that.
it KILLS ME that pentax can't just put some better codecs, clean/raw hdmi, and sensor based SR into one of these cameras.... pentax would have a killer mirrorless system if they had licensed the Samsung NX1 and released a fully functional Kmount adaptor for it. like the Samsung nx to K but with AF for those who want it...

Going back to the 4K video issue, apparently a major factor is the heat generated; Fuji models with 4K have a heat sink which increases weight. The Nikon D5 limits the 4K clips to 3 minutes. So it's not a simple software tweak as some claim, it requires a dedicated structure which would increase weight and cost.
the way to do it IMHO would be to build a SPECIFIC handgrip that has XLR audio inputs, line out/headphone jack, extra battery power, AND a cooling fan and redesign a k3 body that has the k70 sensor better video codec's and ONLY unlocks the pro video spec's with the optional video grip attached.. so you pull off an extra rubber cover from the bottom of the camera that opens the air vents for the grips build in fan and attach the grip...... problem solved.
you want primarily stills you buy the camera only, get limited to 1080 video, you want more than that, pay for the grip.
would buying a $700.00-$2400.00 body AND a $700.00 grip make more sense than selling off twenty years worth of collected lenses and bodies to change systems? for me it would.
Even if Pentax had just licensed the NX1 from samsung and released an af nx1 to pentax adaptor I'd be happy. the samsung adapter didn't have af and man I'm sorry Samsung didn't keep producing the nx1 or release a new model... that was what I need right now.

The K70 seems more video orientated, along with the new 55-300mm lens, so perhaps there's some hope for our videographers?
I'm guessing Pentax ditched the sensor based SR NOT over noise in the audio as stated but maybe but due to HEAT and wear on the SR mechanism... they don't want to add a "feature" that cuts the lifespan of the product under heavy use and have a backlash over "quality" due to a shorter lifespan.. it's speculation, not based on evidence.... I don't think anybody has ever tested the old models for lifespan under heavy video shooting conditions.
Live HDMI out with highest quality bit rate and some more video options would have had me jumping at it.
even the absence of a headphone jack isn't a big issue since many shooters will run a line out to the camera from the recorder and monitor sound from the recorder any mics being used get the benefit of the recorders preamps that way ..

Somehow I wonder whether Pentax would ever think that a customer who's been with the brand for 30 years would ever want more sophisticated video features ?!?
A basic entry level kit for an indie filmmaker consists of three cameras... ONE prosumer video camera, one d-slr, one go-pro. a wide adaptor for the video cam, a fast fifty and a wide to moderate fast constant aperture zoom for the d-slr.
Some lighting gear (hacked together from the hardware store) work and clamp lights, a couple led panels and a couple cfl or kino flo fluorescents, a couple light stands, clamps, black foil, gaffer tape and sand bags.
some extension cables and misc lighting / electrical bits.
some sound gear. 2 lavs, one shotgun, one dslr mounted mini shotgun, one recorder with xlr jacks one mini recorder, a boom pole, deadcat and misc cables.
a tripod, mini slider and dslr rig. and a mono pod.
with all the money a person has to invest to make a decent indie film, corporate interview or documentary or even weddings...
there is no excuse for Pentax to be losing customers or sales when they could up the specs on one of their camera systems to make it useful for multimedia shooters to justify owning the system...
IF I have the option of buying a pentax d-slr that can integrate into a system for pro work the way nikon and canon do then I get value for owning the system... if I have to buy canon to shoot video ANYWAYS because canon and panasonic BOTH make cameras and lenses for pro level stills and video... why on earth would my next purchase be pentax ANYTHING?
the k70 looks like a baby step in the right direction, but it's not enough, and the k1 is a huge letdown for video.
IF the k-1 had simply matched the direct competitors video specs... clean hdmi out pro res 4:2:2 recording 1080 60p and 4k 24p with sensor based sr as an option over the digital sr... I would be ordering the k1 and the 70-200 next month. instead I've given up hope and am leaving the brand.
if I buy into BMD's micro cinema cam system I might as well sell off my pentax collection and use the money to switch over to panasonic across the board. or go with the ursa and canon lenses and d-slrs. there is no point in having a pentax system sitting around collecting dust waiting for the odd magazine shoot.

A post elsewhere prompts me to ask, what about PTTL, etc, with these latest flash-less models?
next step up is using "auto" with optical slaves where an on camera flash unit fires the off camera flashes.
then wireless P-ttl with on camera flash firing off camera flash.
for the ultimate in control, try wireless flash with radio slaves and manual controls.
I prefer manual flash myself. use whatever works, they can all do a nice job.
no built in flash is a minor issue, you do need to buy one or two or more off camera flash units. that is all.
