H''mm - could be! Any examples you could suggest?
On/off
No (said that in first post).

Nope!
It was a quick fix, so it must have been "easy" (and don't forget the info I gave in the first post)!
you hit the mirror lock up by mistake?
Not quite sure how you do that (I know it can be done, but have only done it as part of the routine to clean the sensor).
lenscap on?
Nothing quite that obvious (don't forget that I was already shooting with the lens that was fitted - 150-500 HSM)!
BTW: I saw someone with (IIRC) a D800 and a Bigma (or something like it), and he stood there all day using that combo - with the lens hood still reversed (it had become a sunny day by that time). Does that tell you something about some of the "opposition"
Come on - give you a few more guesses and then I'll come clean on what happened!

All going quite well until, quite suddenly, the shutter opened and effectively the camera became unusable. Did all the usual things (switched off & on, batteries out the body and grip for a long time and so on) without any change, so swapped the 150-500 to the old K-5 and carried on shooting.
This morning I got the K-3 out again at home, and the problem was still there but I fixed it in about a minute - so what do you think had happened? (no prizes but a little lesson, at least for me!).
