that 24-70 has my eye for the k3.... looks like an excellent studio portrait lens.
but if I do upgrade to a k1 (sadly the info on the video end isn't compelling enough to make this one a "must have").. then the 70-200 will be wanted as well.

Seems a strange strategy ..... Wouldn't it be more effective to just avoid the negatives at the start by loading the available features straight away? Initial impressions count for a lot, and mud sticks. Also, without specific announcements concerning future firmware plans, I doubt that people would have great confidence in things that might come.
samsung set the bar high for after purchase upgrades via firmware, and no it doesn't seem strange to me, pentax puts pro specs video codecs in, people bitch about the af (which maybe is limited by hardware not firmware)... but pentax puts out the best body at the best price, people actually buy the thing.. pentax says "hey, sales are slowing down we got new firmware coming out for bug fixes and new lenses anyways, why not splurge a few bucks more and throw a bone to the video shooter crowd and see if it impacts our bottom dollar? as in: more sales?

I strongly suspect the k1 has some room for improvement on the video end, and that we'll see a firmware upgrade in a few months that will unlock some more capabilities.... no we won't see 4k video, but we might see some sensor based shake reduction, faster frame rates and a log profile.
I think Pentax is playing it safe, focusing on it's core fanbase but paying attention to feedback from users about wanted features....
I think they know from past experience if they put the serious video specs on the firmware end at initial release, the "pentax is doomed" brigades and biased media will go apeshit over poor af while recording and lambaste them in the media, but if they get good press for the stills capabilities then ad a subtle upgrade to the video specs people will just say "Thank you"

36 mp slows it down? so put it in crop mode and it goes faster. problem solved.
not a bad trade off for the sports shooter really.. multiplies the focal length of the lens and speeds up the frame rate, two birds, one stone... people were happy with 16 mb before so what's wrong with that? 15 mb in crop mode?

it looks to me like the k-1 with 15-30 with astro tracer is going to be a great little night sky kit, perfect for shooting landscapes with stars....
is pricy but I'm betting you won't miss having filter threads at night... plus it seems like a nice walk about lens.. I always wanted a WR version of the 16-45 and this is I guess as close as one could hope for. k-1 or no k-1 this is an interesting lens.

The screen is very clever in operation. We were 'encouraged' to play with it like in the same way shown in the Ephotozine video.

Whilst it was scary trying it, we successfully carried the camera with the 24-70mm holding just the screen!
two things about that screen that stick out to me.. (pun intended)
1) should be easy to repair or replace if damaged...
2) the design is such that I'd expect to see a variant with detachable, wireless LCD screen/touchscreen remote on some future model like a ks2 or k-o1 replacement

A lack of vision/imagination on your end does not equate to " a silly idea without a single practical purpose."
Go-pro is a serious camera that has been used on many TV productions and feature films.
ok not the fully functional lcd I'm predicting, but detachable on a pro system, none the less please try not to be condescending unless you are sure you're right.
one single practical use for a detachable touch screen on a d-slr would be setting or racking focus during video recording.

also remember in the camera industry, pro's are often the last to adopt newer technologies... like face recognition, af, ttl flash etc.. the list goes on but we often see technologies develop and mature in the comsumer products before they get incorporated into "pro" cameras because far too many pros are "ahem" slow... to adapt to change. leading to what is referred to as "trickle up" technology.
consumer cams always get it first
swivel grips seems less useful but it and the detachable screen would appeal to video shooters

also don't be surprised if your new camera asks if you want to register or update your firmware, over wi-fi...

OK Nostradamus, you've had your fun. I'll leave you with this thought.
If the rear screen was going to be removable, there would be little point in developing such a convoluted and 'mental' articulation mechanism.
You said 'Call me crazy'... Well, I did because the idea is bonkers
actually the articulated feature is useful.. it's the way the back of the screen seems to have a clip holder and that clip holder is attached to the camera that makes me think the screen can be separated at the clip holder for removal... that clip holder seems redundant a simpler hinge would have sufficed. the screen looks like a self contained unit that slides into a clip holder that is mounted by 4 metal pistons to the camera... two part system...
