but I think it might be time to part with the K-7 soon, I'm after Astrotracer functionality and cleaner high ISO in particular
just not sure I can convince myself to spend for the K-3

how would you quantify three times better?
I don't see where the three times the cost comes into it? You'd have to compare intro prices for both (possible) or final street prices for both (not yet possible)to have a fair comparison.
I reckon I can get a refurb K-5 mk1 body for 1/3 of that (less than 400) or possibly a new for 450
Don't get me wrong the K-3 looks great in every way. I just tend to scrutinise these things. A grand is a grand. Its a fairly big deal and we all know tech depreciates.
