Another review...

The main negative in this one was the price

To me it still looks a beast.. I can imagine so many uses... sure f1.8 of the sigma would be nice... but if I had a newer pentax body the better ISO sensitivity/cleanness would help with the variable aperture

IQ looks great. But if the DA20-40 IQ is very good then even if the Sigma wins on that count then there are a lot of situations where the Pentax would be more convenient. It is a lot more compact, really a lot more and WR. The price needs to be competitive of course.
I agree with this, I think if the IQ of the Pentax is "good enough" it will be a killer product...

It has size, weight and WR on the sigma

Has happened on my K7 a couple of times. Has always recovered after removing battery.

Would you sell that lot minus the IR Remote and Battery grip for a lower price. If so what would this price be.

If the IQ of the 20-40mm meets a certain level it could be a killer product IMO. Only issue then is saving the money for it. Its the same price/size as the FA31mm roughly and a lot more versatile.

Compared to the sigma its small, has WR and silent.

I can imagine this setup... The 20-40mm would be glued on to the camera body... the others in the bag if they would fit

15mm DA f4
20-40mm HD DA f2.8-4
50mm M f1.7
100mm WR f2.8

If the IQ was good enough I'd be tempted to part with my FA 35mm f2 to help afford it. Something I thought I'd never even vaguely consider selling.

Some interesting comments...

I'm considering getting the K-5 mk1 second hand body only.

or if pentax uk can clarify the cashback on the k-5 ii body only I might go for that.. though it is approx 200 quid more than a 2nd hand mk1 would be. AFAICT the main advantage would be the AF.

The DA 70mm sounds interesting the more I read about. Though it would also fall into the range of quite a few of the nice but expensive zooms. Granted its a lot smaller though and should hold its own at its focal length.

Yes astro tracer [o-gps1] is very much on the cards when I get a compatible body, but its lower down the list and is another 200 quid.
