When I logged into shortcut USA website for silkypix today 17:00 GMT my AV tool flagged up a high risk problem
"MSIE ADODB.Stream Object File Installation weakness"

URL was http://www.shortcutinc.com/cms/index/php

this is for XP SP2

Anyone else had similar problem ?

It will be interesting to see how the 100-300+1.4xTC at 300m/f4 (=420/f5.6) compares to the 120-400 at 400/f5.6

Hi Matt, thanks for this, v.helpful to see how others use spx
I too have a K10 and for landscapes I agree Natural Fine often seems best, not worked out how to get best out of the 'pure detail' sharpening option yet though ! Skill level 2 I think

just done a bit of searching, this site may be helpful, not familiar with it but it seems quite detailed at first sight.

http://www.notebookcheck.net/How-much-graphic-memory-makes-sense.2558.0.html

Not sure what sort of editing you intend to do, my own experience with laptops is that the big problem is colour - completely changes as viewing angle changes. Cropping and weeding out the poor shots, just fine, but anything important, I have little confidence I'd be getting it right on a laptop. Screen brightness can differ markedly between using mains or battery power too.

there are some laptop gfx cards around with dedicated memory i.e. own RAM, suggest you do some hunting around on internet.
i.e. http://www.nvidia.co.uk/page/mobile.html

I found John Lewis's staff quite helpful when wanting details about laptop specs, e.g. mobo clock speeds, gfx memory, (some at least) know how to find out the information via control panel from the laptops in the shop.

I found PC world's staff to be entirely clueless - knew the buzzwords - it's got .... so it's good innit - but nowt else take a block of rocksalt with you & lick frequently.

Hi folks
is this the new DA-L version with the synthetic bayonet supposed to be released about the same time as the K-m or the original one with the metal bayonet ? I know the website says with quickshift, I just wondered what arrived for those who have bought one.
DA, not DA-L.

I got a slightly used Sigma 100-300 from Chris at SRS, but optically it's miles ahead of the 120-400. Even used with a Kenko Pro 300 1.4x converter, the images are great, and that gives you a 420mm f5.6.

Hi there, may I enquire where you found a kenko pro 1.4x TC in Pentax mount ?

Amazon.co.uk £880, bristol £745, SRS £20 (deposit only)

I wonder whether the cashback offer will be extended to this lens too ? (I think I know the answer!)

It is the Japanese version only.

The English version is due in the Spring. As a moderator on the Silkypix forum, we've been promised advance notification regarding the English beta release as several of us have requested that we be involved in the English text as we would like to avoid some of the wierd "Japlish" that it has suffered from in the past.
Thanks for the info Richard Best of luck with the japanese lessons!

Anyway it's easy to criticise, much harder to do. An old college friend of mine has a PhD in Japanese, haven't been in contact for years, but I could see if they were interested in some business if it helps.

FWIW from my experience during the trial period I decided to buy the current version anyway, hopefully the yen-GBP will improve by the spring so the upgrade becomes a bit cheaper !

cheers
