Haven't tried either of those but I'm very very impressed by my new Sigma 70-200 HSM 2 F2.8

No one mentioned the Pentax SMC F 1.7x AF Adapter. Makes the MF lens a very fast auto focus lens!
Probably because of three problems:
1) Finding one (hens teeth?)
2) Being able to afford one!
3) The reduction in effective aperture - as I said above, anything more than a 1-stop reduction will cause problems with a lot of lenses.
1: Readily available (new) through Amazon Japan, as mentioned in some past posts.
2 Yes expensive
3 Works fine with most prime lenses.
cheers

Just picked up a Sigma 70-200 EX APO Macro HSM II. As per other online comments, it's great. Not as heavy as I expected but probably bcause I have a Bigma as well. Bokah excellent. It's my first HSM (SDM) lens so that's interesting. Very well made and solid as are all the Sigma EX lenses. On special about 500 GBP (AUD 750)with 2 year warranty.
Cheers

Hi Brian. I have this lens. It's soft as you might expect. Can take reasonable photos especially if you stop it down. Found it very good with indoor people/party photos where the softness can be an advantage!

Theoretically you could use one of the older Pentax (K, M or A) wide angle lenses, line up all the orange numbers (aperture set to f8, focus varies between lenses but it's usually the first numbers down from infinity) and have everything in focus from infinity to a couple of metres using this hyperfocal setting, although I've yet to borrow a video-capable DSLR and try this.
This is exactly what I have done at times. A new use for those manual lenses!

My K5 bought last December and with mid November build date was all clear until (as far as I'm aware)late March. String of pearls sensor stain developed and I contacted Cameraelectronic in Perth. They replaced the camera with a new K5 (392xxxx,build date Jan 17 2011). Can't complain about the service! New K5 is all set up and ready to go.

I have used my 1.7X AF TC with a Sigma 105mm F2.8 lens to have a ~180mm lens for indoor sports. Seemed to work well.

The SP 35-80mm f2.8-3.8 CF Macro is probably my favourite lens.

Weather bureau has cancelled Cyclone watch. Ex TC Bianca is not apparent on satellite images. Wind is blowing but may just be the "Fremantle Doctor".
Will be a shame if we don't get some rain tonight! A sunny day today with the main effect being some reasonable summer surf.
