My thoughts:If you have Pentax AF converter 1.7X, then it can be used with Sigma 70-200 in combo mode ie Lens in manual mode and Af converter to nail the focus. The AF converter is really fast in my limited experience to date.

I viewed the poll initially saying I didn't have a K5. Well now I do but can't vote!
For the record, my sensor is OK. Having lots of fun with this camera and just used video on Grandchild at Kindy. Easy to use!

I've looked at the K20d manual and it should show 'MF' on the screen for three seconds after changing mode (if you haven't disabled the screen) and 'MF' in the viewfinder when you are in MF mode. So presumably even if you set the lever to AF, the viewfinder will still show MF if you have a manual lens attached?
My K20D sees any manual lens as an AF lens except on power up when I need to insert the focal length. Works well in AFS or AFC.
View finder only shows MF when front lever is switch off both AFS and AFC. Of course no point in using the MF position! Note: make sure AF converter is "reset" by focussing on distant scene (infinity), otherwise it can get lost and not work properly.

Just to lower the tone - could you bring me back a Pentax 1.7 Teleconverter. I have a few contacts there and will dig them out
New Pentax 1.7X AF adaptors are sold via Amazon Japan. Plenty available. You need a local Japanese address which can be obtained from Tenso.com who are forwarding agents. Very efficient. I just received mine and contrary to many comments online, the adaptor autofocus works at F5.6 if not greater. I am using it with the Tamron 350mm F5.6 to make a very compact AF 600mm lens! AF is very fast after approximate manual focus is obtained.

I have bought a number of items off ebay UK. They have all been sent Royal Mail. A little slow but no problems.

The SP 35-80mm F2.8-3.8 is outstanding and probably the lens I use most.
Also very happy with the SP 300mm F2.8 Model 360B.

Here is a 300mm f2.8 or 420mm f4 adaptall 2 lens with the included 1.4x TC. I have the later Tamron 300mm f2.8 model 360b. Its manual focus is superb.

If its a non Pentax adaptor definitely remove the little tab and screw(s). Some people have had much trouble with these adaptors being stuck on the camera! Still works fine without the tab.
