Advice on Filters for 35mm
I did do some experiments on filters and their effects on resolution, CA and flare: https://www.ephotozine.com/user/johnriley1uk-22471/blog/to-filter-or-not-to-filter--12274 https://www.ephotozine.com/user/johnriley1uk-22471/blog/to-filter-or-not-to-filter----part-two-12278 It was interes...

Advice on Filters for 35mm
I think for smaller diameter lenses (especially if it's on film), Cokin P filters are more than adequate, there may be a slight colour cast which might be a problem if shooting on chrome film for projection. The larger 'pro' filter systems are much more expensive and only really needed if you're usi...

ND filters
Hi all, this question doesn't seem to fit into the general structure of the fora so on the basis I plan to use them with film, I'll ask the question here. I'd like to get some 55mm or 58mm ND filters. Before someone suggests it, rectangular filter systems won't work for my current purpose. A...

ND filters
I've very little experience with ND filter, so this may be just a coincidence. I bought a B&W 10 stop from a friend who used it on a Canon set up with no colour cast. On my Pentax it produced a brown cast. it also produced a cast of a different hue on another friends Nikon. My point is it may be a c...

Companies scanning developed film in UK?
Have you considered doing your own scanning using your DSLR. If you do a search on YouTube will find lots of useful of advice and you won't need to be reliant on third parties. Takes up time but keeps costs down and once you have mastered your setup & technique it should be plain sailing. Good...

Companies scanning developed film in UK?
[quote:3496ace15f=Yes, I've had reasonable success doing this with my K50 + FA50mm Macro and an old slide/neg copier attached to the lens filter thread. Both BW and Colour negs and colour slides. For larger negatives etc. I've used a light board and the macro lens. Nice. Also, a redundant enlarge...

Asahi Pentax Filters Leaflet
With more film being shot, perhaps someone will find this filter leaflet useful. It came with a pentax filter, is a thin semi-transparent tissue paper and would have been issued in the Spotmatic days or earlier. Still, the function of filters does not change, so it is relevevant.

Old Hoya Filters
(I'm also trying to work out what filters might be available for my, new to me, Q10) Any 40.5mm diameter filter will fit the Pentax Q lenses. Polarisers and UV filters are out there. Other types might also be around but they're not as useful for digital as they were for film. And, of course, the 01,...

Old Hoya Filters
Thank you LennyBloke and Lubbyman for your comments. I know that I can use any 40.5mm filter, I just have an irrational loyalty to Hoya filters. I know that there are interesting, and dare I say it, better, filters out there - but it is Hoya all the way in this household. As for sourcing, I ha...

Oldmoor
Thanks from me too Neil, I really enjoyed it, I think Oldmoor is my favourite reserve because the hides are so close to the birds. There were some other bonuses for me today too: - I met Barrie Forbes - great to see you Barrie - Barrie let me try out his Sigma 17-50, which is very good BTW ...

Kodachrome Rules OK?
I absolutely take your point on that. Sometimes it seems like just going through the motions, with very little imagination applied. I am, as you can tell, a great fan of the qualities of Kodachrome. One interesting use is the copying of black and white originals - Kodachrome is very neutral and ma...

Close up filters
Hi all! Has anyone got any experience in using close up filters? Especially the single lens construction. You see I have two lenses with 72mm filters (20-35 and 28-70) and would rather not lug around another lens for the occassional macro work. I find I can get a 72mm kit with three filters for a...

Close up filters
Ross, thanks for your info. The Kood filter set is fabulous! Haven't had so much fun in ages! The effect on my 28-70mm Tokina looks great, and even on the 20-35mm Tokina the macro is definitely useful! Distortion comes in alot at 20mm, but it opens up a whole set of possibilities. I found ano...

Better pictures
Hello Hayesgooner You have not said what film you are using for your landscape photos. With print film, a fair degree of under exposure exposure will be automatically compensated for in the print processing stage. With slide film what you take is what you get, there is very little lattitude. I...

Johns advice about joining a Photographic Society is well worth thinking about. Most Photographic Societies are excellent places to gradually learn photography, techniques and composition. They are great places to make friends who have similar interests. The Jessops website has a Photographic Soci...

Lens filters
Can anyone give any advice on the best use of lens filters? Last year on holiday I sometimes used a Hoya 81B and polarizer on my 24mm lens at the same time and it caused vignetting at the corners of my pictures. I’m now thinking of buying a Cokin system to avoid this happening again, but it would ne...

Lens filters
Hi, Vignetting is always going to be a problem with wide angles and I wouldn't recomend using a screw in with the cokin on a 24mm. Althought the filters are big, the holder tend to restrict the angle in the same wasy as a screw-in. One solution might br to use the cokin polarizer as well as the cor...

Lens filters
While at the local photo shop I was recently poking through a collection of unsorted used filters. In the collection. there were a number of very thin screw- in filters (appears to be about half the thickness of the "normal" filter) which I coincidently just learned were specifically designed for u...
