ND and film?
Thanks John, another question please. As I am hoping to take some portraits outdoors, would I benefit by using a yellow filter? For contrast? Deryn

ND and film?
I presume you mean on B&W film, Deryn. You can preview the effects of B&W colour filters in photoshop - for example the attached shot (originally taken in colour) is shown with yellow, red, blue and green filters (clockwise from top left). Note the effect on skin tones and the green background, and...

ND and film?
This may help a little - whatever colour filter you pick will lighten that colour and those either side of it, and darken the ones on the opposite side of the colour wheel.

Fisheye lense
The lowest cost option will be a front lens fisheye converter. This screws into the filter thread. Cheap and cheerful, but it works. A Pentax Adapter K will allow the use of screw thread lenses on the bayonet bodies, so that's another option. Finally, eBay, camera fairs and second hand stock i...

Film and scanner
If you have a decent quality digital SLR, then buy a small light box from ebay, about £12 to £15, mount the camera on a tripod and with a bit of fiddling you will get excellent digital images. The right size UV filter laid on the negative will stop the negative curling. Once you get the hang of it, ...

Whats a film camera like with a DA?
It's not a DA designation, nor is it by Pentax. One of the best full fame lenses that WOULD have the DA designation if it were made by Pentax; is made by Sigma - the Sigma EX 24-70 f2.8 Also one of the more costlier lenses; certainly very heavy and quite large. Nothing quite like the 82mm front f...

Best Film
Any colour and any black and white film will be just fine for the ME Super, but for portraiture I presume you'll want something fine grained, so any colour film up to ISO 200 and probably an ISO 100/125 black and white film. The same really applies to landscape photography, but you might want an ora...

Slide film and ND grads
I have a question about shooting slide film and estimating exposure when using natural density graduated filters. I currently use a Lee 100 filter system, including the Lee 100 hard edge ND grads. One method I use when shooting landscapes is to measure the sky with spot metering on the camera. ...

Slide film and ND grads
I see what you're saying now, sorry .. You mean that you are assessing the exposure difference between mids and highs in order to choose the correct filter ..... ? I was speaking at a tangent and looking at the actual targets of the camera metering , ie I thought you were actually exposing at the h...

Slide film and ND grads

Film developing
Any film can be developed into a black and white negative, even Kodachrome. True John, but then you don't get to play with Pan-F 50, Delta ranges (100 - 3200), push/pull films, high/low contrast etc. and that is only the Ilford films. I began with Ilford XP2 (pseudo monochrome) which can be devel...

Advice on Filters for 35mm
I think that a good quality circular polarizer is probably the only 'filter' you might need, and perhaps an ND filter or two, a 10 stopper maybe, most others including grads can be added in post processing software.

Advice on Filters for 35mm
For landscapes a graduated ND filter can be very useful indeed, to avoid blown out skies.

Advice on Filters for 35mm
I've been thinking of buying a ND filter (10 stop) for landscapes & seascapes. There's a lot of choice and great range in price, eg: £10 to over £100. Are the expensive ones really worth the cost?

Advice on Filters for 35mm
The cheaper ones from feedback on the www plus photo forums seem to have a colour cast, whilst this can be taken out in post, its preferable imo to have it correct in camera. My advise would be to pick one mid range and a circular filter as that minimises any stray light, I purchase filters to th...

Advice on Filters for 35mm
Just a point about colour cast and I've never heard it before. I bought a B+W ND 3.0 from a mate who uses Canon and he reported no colour cast. I used it on my Pentax and it produced a cast. Another friend tried it on his Nikon and it produced a cast, but of a different hue. Not conclusive but made ...
