Infra Red?
I didn't know that Ken. I still have my first DSLR, and its an *istDS. So I just need to get a filter? I would love to try IR. David The basic filter will work fine with the *istDS. I use several cheap chinese ones (different sizes & wavelegths) with my K100d. A little variation in your normal fram...

Infra Red?
Having seen a few peoples digital infra red shots, I was wondering about the infra red film that Ilford make. Someone here had been experimnenting with it I seem to recall? Might make an interesting project with one of the film cameras. As and when there is time! That might have been me! The f...

Should I go for a film SLR?
By a complete stroke of luck, I have today picked up a tidy MX with immaculate SMC M 1:1.7 50mm and M1:3.5 135mm lenses. The camera came with a leather holder and a Hanimex TZ1 flash, diffusers and Colkin square filter holder and some filters. The MX is spot on with the exception of the lens m...

polariser
No, Also, Polarisers come in two forms, Linear and circular; this refers to the type of Polarisation not the shape of filter. Most AF cameras cannot use Linear Polarisers due to the effect the polarisation has on the AF detector, this does not apply to Pentax AF systems  Linear polarisers a...

polariser
When I shot a lot more film than I do now I used a linear polarizer on my lens. By turning the filter whilst looking through the viewfinder you could see the effect. I don't think circular ones show this, which could make them awkward to use.

black and white Film
TBH I tend to use HP5 all the time. The grain is more than fine enough for day to day use. I have also tried SFX with an IR filter, which is a bit complicated but good fun. I've got a roll of Delta 3200 on the go at the moment, just waiting for a suitable situation to finish it off. Given it's no...

Pentax MX SLR - lens mount question.
By a complete stroke of luck, I have today picked up a tidy MX with immaculate SMC M 1:1.7 50mm & 1:3.5 135mm lenses. The camera came with a leather holder and a Hanimex TZ1 flash, diffusers and Colkin square filter holder and some filters to boot. The MX is spot on with the exception of the...

KM light meter gone a bit odd
Well after a quick drop of lighter fluid and a lot of wiggling of the film speed dial it's now only over-exposing by one stop. I will check it again, but I can cope with that by just setting it to 400ASA for 200ASA film and so on. I'm not expecting pinpoint accuracy but something in the vague vicini...

Film advice?
As regards the chromogenic BW films... These films have a wide exposure latitude so it is very difficult to "get it wrong" (whatever wrong is...). If you over expose you get lower contrast but finer grain, whereas if you underexpose you get higher contrast but coarser grain. With Kodak BW400CN ...

Film advice?
Another vote for Kodak Tri-X from me for my fave film - I think the ISO400 Tri-X is now marketed as Kodak 400TX (?). I have tried HP5 but found that the variations of grey in Tri-X are much more pleasing to my eye - although it's a matter of personal choice of course. I generally have a yellow filte...

Pentax KX
I just got a KX on ebay but I haven't run a film through it yet. It's a beautiful camera, and I think it will suit my large hands better than my MX does. I paid £55 for it with a K55 f/1.8 that had a big ding in the filter ring but was otherwise ok. The camera cleaned up nicely and has been servi...

Filter for Takumar 500mm M42 lens
Hi all...just recently bought a secondhand Takumar Telephoto lens 500mm, M42mm screw mount. I want to screw a filter to the front to protect the lens and want to know the size...I know the rear of the lens took a 49mm sized filter. I can't find any info on what size filter would fit on the front......

Filter for Takumar 500mm M42 lens
If you have the lens cap, the size should be on the back of it.:D

Filter for Takumar 500mm M42 lens
No it wouldn't, these lenses have a cast and machined metal filter that pushes on over the lens barrel. TBH It would be difficult to imagine a situation where you would be so close to anything as to collide with it and require any such dubious 'protection'.

ME Super 2 questions
Hello I am new here and wonder if anyone can help with two issues I have 1 I have a red filter for the above and plan to take some b and w photos. Is this filter ok for portraits? I know it is favoured for skies. Also do I have to adjust the f stop? I think not as the Auto setting adjusts the shu...

ME Super 2 questions
1 The red filter can be used for portraits, but that would be unusual as it will make skin look rather odd. Skin and lips will become very pale. Try it, but don't expect your subjects will like it as pictures of themselves. The metering will compensate for the filter. 2 With auto you set the aper...

ME Super 2 questions
Thanks John I read that perhaps I need a yellow-green filter for portraits but again maybe not? The cicumstances are I will be taking b and w shots at night (with poor light- street light- and using a silver, I think, reflector) of various inividuals. I am hoping my f1.7 lens will get me thro...
