Pentax Q close focus issue

The minmum focus distance is measured from the sensor plane, which will be further away than the front element of the lens. At the very closest distance it's always difficult to make sure we are not too close when using AF, with any camera.

Pentax Q close focus issue

Thanks for trying Michael and confirming my findings and to John for your comment. I was measuring from the sensor plane. I doubt it is firmware related but seems odd that the auto focus goes right through the correct setting, so it looks like it ought to be able to autofocus closer than it seems to...

Pentax Q7

Just been reading about this on the US forum. Always said the sensor was too small on the original Q and the price was too high. :) Of course the original Q has plumtted in price and will plummet even more following the release of a Q7. What about the Q10? Will this be discontinued?

Pentax Q7

If I read this correctly, the Q7 is an MX (same sensor and processor) with interchangeable lenses. Fantastic!

Pentax Q7

All this "new" gear seems a bit marginal to existing users I think. I own a Q and a K30 and my first reaction is what's new? WIth the Q clearly the main feature is the larger sensor. But the picture quality for the sort of thing I would use a Q for is already very good in my opinion. It remains to b...

Pentax Q7

Should be a cracker, after all the Q is capable of great things, so the Q7 with a bigger sensor and no AA filter should be very good little thing :)

Pentax Q7

The Q7 (why not Q5?) does look interesting. I think it could do very well. The larger sensor will make a big difference. Pity they didn't put that size sensor in the Q in the first place. I really never saw the point of the Q10 and now it makes even less sense. I'd be a bit hacked off if I had bo...

Pentax Q7

My wife got a Q10 recently. A larger sensor and better AF are all very worthy upgrades but having tested the Q10 out over the weekend, what it was really crying out for in my opinion was a better LCD screen. Using the LCD to compose shots in bright daylight at unfavourable angles involved a lot of g...

Pentax Q7

My main beef with original Q was the small sensor with the high price. Now the price of the original Q has predictably plummeted it's now, IMO, settled into a fun camera at a fun price. The Original Q is fast becoming a must have. I must buy one before the price shoots up again :)

Pentax Q7

Now with the larger sensor, I need to read up on reviews of the ISO performance. Just lugged my k30 round Glastonbury, and a Q7 is suddenly a lot more appealing!

Pentax Q & DA 18-55

Yup, on the Q all you're doing is cropping images from a lens designed for a much bigger imaging circle. If you're going to do that, the lens has to be spectacularly sharp... and the 18-55mm isn't really that. Better to use lenses designed with that tiny sensor in mind I think.

My k-01 review

Having a couple of long mf lenses I liked the idea of attaching the k-01 for the reduced weight and focus peaking through the rear LCD, something i find difficult on the k-5 mki and mkii despite recent improvements. The k-01 with Tamron 400mm f/4 The k-01 has a love it hate it relationshi...

Q7 Review up...

I think anyone expecting stunning shadow detail from a camera of the ilk of the Q series is deluding themselves. The Q series cameras IMO are a fun quirky strain of shooting device and chance to have features like lens interchangeability in such a compact form is what gives the series the edge. ...

Q7 Review up...

The difference in sensor size has an impact on the lens line up. I wanted a normal prime and a wide prime combination for the Q but I suspect it will now not be wide enough as it will be developed for the larger sensor. That's if it ever arrives. So I have pixel peeped the samples so I can consid...

Q7 Review up...

I don't think that's a negative review at all. I think it highlights the strengths and weaknesses rather well. It is just reviewed from the viewpoint of the enthusiast photographer, which is the point of that site. Reviews from other sites will highlight the appeal of the colour combinations. I...

It makes me wonder why they didn't since clearly the lenses are designed with an image circle to suit the larger sensor

Q7 Review up...

My understanding of the Q is the engineers were ahead of a competitively priced sensor at the time of design. Clever they allowed for it once available. Shame they can't retrofit the enlarged sensor for a fee. Leica have done this before I believe but at astronomical cost! Ricoh of course do pla...

Q7 Review up...

ricoh is making it hard for us to choose between looks (Original Q) or bigger sensor (Q7) oh well, i guess the next gen Q if they can make it look like the original, but with Q7 sensor, then they are onto a winner!
