This si so tempting! How did you get such narrow DOF with such a small sensor?

The Q does have sensor-shift SR, but the 5.5x crop factor means a 300mm lens would be a huge 1650mm-equivalent. I'm not sure I'd be using a lens anywhere near that long. I envisaged more of a 100mm lens, giving a 550mm-equivalent. Do you think that would be more manageable?

How many K-01 owners here?
There will be a point where I can't resist a K-01, basically for use as a studio camera for copying and small product shots. On a tripod, using the back screen is a very effective way to set these up. I've even used the Q for this. At the moment I use the K20D for this purpose, so I don't need an...

How many K-01 owners here?
The same applies to EVFs, there's always a lag, making them IMHO almost useless for action shots. Sony A77. We don't have any way to measure the Sony A77's viewfinder refresh rate under bright lighting conditions, but our sense is that it's quite high: Motion was very smooth and fluid, and we h...

some of my first shots with the Q
Evening peeps well some of you will know the vast majority of my photography is of derelict/abandoned/disused places and similar. oft there is little light and sometimes awkward lighting conditions - mostly dark but with some windows which by comparison will just blow out bright white. so u...

Q10
I agree it went down better in Asia but the price tumbled everywhere. The Q10 specs are listed on the Pentax website: Construction material(s): Reinforced polycarbonate plastic It promises better AF, although I'm happy enough with it anyway on the Q, the depth of field is so large that it's...

Pentax Q vs Digiscoping
Can someone enlighten me as to the difference between mounting a 300 on a small sensor, and just cropping the image on a conventional shot with that lens? I appear to be missing something here. Pixel density ? All I know is cropping is a very poor way to 'zoom in'.

Pentax Q vs Digiscoping
There are 12 MP on that small sensor to make up the image. If you crop an APS-C image there will be far fewer pixels to make up the image. On the K-30 it might be 2.2MP and on the K-5 3MP, give or take a few. Mount the lens on a small sensor and you use the whole sensor.

Pentax Q vs Digiscoping
There is a very interesting article in the latest version of Digital Photo Pro about interchangeable lens CSC's in which using the Q with legacy lenses is mentioned. Somewhat counter-intuitively, the smaller the sensor, the more likely it will out-resolve the lens, as it is taking the same (or simil...

Pentax Q vs Digiscoping
I bought a Q (but no Q lenses !) specifically for this purpose. I'm afraid as a birder it just doesn't work as the camera shake induced blur when hand-held just destroys the image. I tested it with a Zeiss 85/1.4 and the Tamron 90/2.8 to give 467.5 / 495mm, amongst other lenses. Didn't even bother t...

Pentax Q vs Digiscoping
Some remarks: I own some pretty good lenses with f < = 4.5, which imho is a prerequisite for acceptable extreme telephoto shots with the Q (due to: diffraction, demanding sensor - small pixel size). There also is no SR with the cheap Q-K-adapters and you have to be aware of the equivalent focal leng...

Pentax Q vs Digiscoping
I'm not sure why you think there is no SR with the cheap adapters. SR works with anything you put in front of the camera, being sensor shift type.

Mirror Lens on Mirrorless Camera
I see where you're coming from, good question. Yes I did Hmm, I don't have any other ideas then, other than that it will have to work for longer if you're using it to continuously steady the display (analogous to use of Live View on the dSLRs), and make larger corrections if you're using a long f...

Mirror Lens on Mirrorless Camera
Had the chance for a play today. First tried 500mm Samyang mirror handheld. The sound I heard before is indeed due to the sensor moving around when on continuous shake reduction. Results were a bit disappointing, this lens is definitely easier to use handheld on the GX-10. Then tried using a Samya...

Does the Q have focus confirm in manual
I think it's down to the fact that it's contrast focus off the sensor (rather than phase detect as for dSLRs). On the K5 the focus confirmation for manual focus is achieved with phase detect... and I don't remember it being able to confirm when in Live View. That said, there's an MF magnification...

500mm and 800mm Lenses for Q
So is it 500mm focal length or 500mm 35mm equiv on a Q? If it has a label saying 500mm, it is 500mm irrespective of what it's attached to. The 800mm version clearly shows it badged as an 800mm lens. Focal length won’t change due to film or sensor size. You can have any equivalent FOV you want any...
