Q over quality compact?
Hi Milamber I would think the ability to have interchangeable lenses covering a range of 27.5 to 247.5 in 35mm terms that the Q would give you outweighs a compact, especially as you have rejected the X5 as too big. I'm not an expert on geography, but I'm guessing that these places will have ve...

Q over quality compact?
In terms of Q vs quality compact, I would go for a camera like the MX-1 every time, as I think if you're going to make so many sacrifices to have a small compact 'go-anywhere' camera, it makes more sense to have a quality built in zoom lens, and forget about mucking about with interchangeable lenses...

K-01 "WTF?!"
I wouldn't really expect identical exposure results with the K-5 and K-01, since DSLRs use a dedicated sensor for exposure metering, whereas mirrorless cameras use the actual image sensor.

Q macro
The magnification on 110 format is 1.41/1 but what will that be on the Q? Surely it's the same! :) i.e. 1mm in real life corresponds to 1.41mm on the sensor. How that relates to what you can fit into the shot (which obviously will be less on the Q than the 110) I'd have to get me thinkin' hea...

Q macro
To find the different crop factor for different sensor/film sizes it's easier to use the dimension of the diagonal (if easier is the right word) The diagonal of the 35mm format is around 43.25mm (I say around as different manufacturers used slightly different sizes for the height, it's no...

you have a wider depth of field. I think you might be wrong there. The depth of field is lens relevant, not sensor relevant. The DOF with a small sensor is deeper because we use shorter focal length on these cameras to get the same field of view we'd have with a larger sensor.

Q macro
DOF is all sensor size related. Don't get in a tangle over this, but DOF has nothing directly to do with sensor size. The DOF of a lens remains the same regardless of what you put behind it. At normal distances we observe the not quite accurate but real world situation that we are familiar with. ...

Pentax K-01 discontinued
What, in such a large and loud ad, go after "downhill"?? In this case, it would be wise, if possible, move the sensor in Q10!? greeting Velimir

Pentax K-01 discontinued
I had a look at one of these (first time) at Conran's shop at the weekend. Intrigued I was, had a look, hated the effect on the LCD, goes against the whole ethos of the mirrorless and it looked bulky....if it had a smaller sensor then I would've been interested.

Pentax K-01 discontinued
C'mon guys where else can you buy a camera with the same sensor as a K5 for £239 body only? Don't get me wrong I hate the design too, Pentax didn't do themselves any favours by hiring a designer to design a 'brick', you have to grip it tightly to hold it, it's tiring to use, unlike their DSLR cam...

Pentax K-01 discontinued
Agreed David. I have heard reports (in the USA mainly) that the K-01 has a cult following which is having an affect of secondhand prices. People are realising that this pocket(biggish pocket)rocket is a superb piece of kit, hence why the prices are going upwards for secondhand models. Nothing i...

very positive review of the MX-1 here
Steady on DrO, contrary to what you are saying I have no unswerving loyalty to any manufacturer. What I am suggesting is that we should keep an open mind. If you think the guy is wrong, take it up with him on his blog. You can post your feelings there and he can answer. I'm not sure where Pentax ...

110 lenses
Perhaps when we are pushing things, like very old film lenses on very new tiny sensor digital cameras, deficiencies are amplified. I feel that someone will be along in a moment to tell me the opposite is true. :D

Pentax Q - yet another user review!
Dear Pentax users, after having read almost all I could find on the Pentax Q in this forum and on the internet, here are my two cents (eurocents for that matter) on the munchkin in my pocket. First, why did I get one? I wanted a tiny but serious camera and when I walked into the Fnac shop in P...

K01 Or Q?
I have both and they are very different beasts. The main advantages of the Q are size and looks. It is a very capable camera but if your 2 sons and wife are going to use it they may find the K01 easier. The advantages of the K01 are in my eyes, same sensor as k5 (far more forgiving than the Q...

K01 Or Q?
The K01 makes the most sense, I have plenty of battery's for it, and the K mount is a real bonus. The Q is a jewel, bigger sensor than most and just perfect build quality. The Fuji X10 is calling me also, I like the retro look of it. I just cant make up my mind :?

K-01 and 40mm first impressions...
I tend to be on M or AV almost exclusively, but thanks, good to know George, especially with that forgiving sensor ;)

K-01 and 40mm first impressions...
Took it to Cornwall hoping to have a handy pocket camera, but I couldn't bare to be without my lenses, so it went in the bag anyway  The screen was hopeless in bright daylight, properly annoying and disabling. Need to look for one of those screen viewfinder attachments. Difficulty holding it...
