New K-01 user
I could not resist picking one up when i saw it in the clearance section Silver K-01 including the 40mm lens for £299.99 delivered. I used to have a KX a whle ago and also a Q.This camera gives me superb image quality from the sensor and all the onboard processing effects. I was going to get a K3...

Should I buy a 'Q'
There's nothing I hate about the Q. For me it is an ideal second camera and complementary to a DSLR but not a replacement for one. I use it for family snapshots, discreet street work, experimenting, a go everywhere camera and high magnification shots of the Moon. I find image quality to be way b...

Should I buy a 'Q'
Pentax Q downsides 1) Initially price, £600 was way too much, not a problem now the price has come down. 2) Battery life is short (around 2 hours at the most) Fortunately it's a common battery and can be bought for around £3.00 each inc P&P (eBay, there are genuine suppliers on eBay, but 'cave...

Should I buy a 'Q'
Good point about the wide angle. For me the Q is crying out for a wide angle, compact prime for, inter alia, street photography. There is one on the lens roadmap (2013 or later), I hope it is 2013. I use only the 8.5mm (47mm equivalent) which is compact enough to make the Q just pocketable. The ...

Pentax have done it again !
I've just recieved my nearly new Pentax Q with 01 lens and have to say, after a quick play, I LOVE THIS CAMERA. I wasn't expecting too much really and just wanted something to throw in my pocket when out for a stroll or walking the dog etc. When I first picked it up I couldn't believe how well bui...

Pentax have done it again !
Couldn't agree more with the above comments, I was very pleasantly surprised with the image quality for such a tiny sensor and yes, it is extremely well made....I love mine but a built in viewfinder would have been the icing on the cake! :P

K01 Auto Iso - Minimum Iso
Thanks for the suggestion John. Tried this and it just extends the top range to ISO 25600 I have spotted that on the K-01 the auto ISO range shows a small min 100 and a larger max. On the K-30 they are equal size, with an arc underneath each indicating which thumbwheel to turn to change it. I sus...

First Images with Adapter
The problem with the cheap adapters is the sensor is active for 1/7th of a second, so the last pixel will always be 1/7th of a second after the first which pretty much rules out hand holding. It works like this. You set the shutter speed, let's say 1/100th of a second. The camera tells the sen...

First Images with Adapter
One thing that occurs to me is that some of these lenses are still delivering sharp results on a tiny, densely pixelled sensor. If the sensor was scaled up at the same pixel density, the resolution would presumably be pretty vast? Is the MP race really over? Then again some of the lenses a...

First k-01 Experiences
Sorry for the delay in answering these - been rushed off my feet going thru all the photos from this event. All conversions done after the fact in Apple Aperture only. What I just can't figure out is why the K-01 has much better punch than my K-30 - I'm much prefering the output. Could be the l...

Q: Better in black or white?
White...definitely white. It looks much classier, matches the silver lenses well and surprisingly.... does NOT get dirty easily. Plus...it produces very good IQ for such a tiny sensor! I love mine. :D

Q over quality compact?
I got the Q as a complementary camera to the K5 as I wanted a go everywhere option that was pocketable and also good for sneaky street shooting. The IQ was a pleasant surprise. I'm with Andrew's thoughts on the appeal of the Q. I also had the choice between the Q and a compact. However, if I wer...

Q over quality compact?
I'd satisfy myself that the 02 zoom f2.8-4.5 versus the f1.8-2.5 of the MX-1 meets the shooting needs of the trip as those differences in spec are significant, especially factoring the relative sensor sizes. I think the promise of adapted lenses outweighs the performance. I still haven't seen any...

Q over quality compact?
My first pp-ed shot from the Q + 01 (re-sized to 800px for PUF): Watford overground (guess where I'd been:wink:) Overall I'm quite pleased. Not DSLR quality - I doubt the K5 would have any blocked up dark areas, and the general detail retained would have been significantly better (the hai...

Q over quality compact?
I'm torn between the Q (or Q10), the new MX-1, and the Fuji X-20, which has got a proper sensor instead of the daft EXR sensor that was great for Jpegs but produced RAW files that were almost impossible to get a decent image from. I'm tending towards the MX-1 pending reviews, but the Q looks like a ...

Q over quality compact?
Well perhaps you should also consider waiting for the MX-1, which may well be the alternative you are seeking? I did consider it John and have read one or two previews, sensor size/resolution don't compete with the RX100 though so the MX-1 just isn't quite there for me. Simon
