Hi all - complete newbie

Hi Eke and welcome. You have a K10D - a very cool camera and a pretty capable tool so you should be taking ace shots in no time. In terms of your questions - where to start??? I would strongly recommend you find a copy of the K10D instruction manual, as it is pretty good as I recall at effectively t...

Hello from Skye

Hi folks After much research I've just bought a Pentax K-5 with the 18-55 and 50-200 WR lenses. I have film SLR's at home that have gathered dust over the last few years (a Canon T70 and two Olympus OM2's) so I finally shelled out and got a DLSR after wanting one for years. Amazed at how my T70 w...

Hello from Skye

Congratulations on your new camera, and welcome to the forum. I look forward to some photos of beautiful Skye. I recommend you invest in an Arctic Butterfly brush to clean the sensor of your new camera. They cost a bit to buy but are definitely worth it. Learn to change lenses with the cam...

Hello from Skye

Skye is brilliant, and you will no doubt have plenty of opportunty to test our the eather sealing! It shouldn't be a problem, just don't take the camera swimming... As regards cleaning, a microfibre lens cloth for the lens surfaces, a dry or slightly damp lint free cloth for the body. No need to ...

Another one !!

G'day and welcome. The K10D is my first DSLR, still have it. It takes a fine picture, many people prefer the look and feel of its images due mainly to its CCD sensor (more recent ones use CMOS instead).

k1000 me to Kr body

I would suggest buying the K-r with the 18-55mm lens as a kit. It's an excellent lens for the money and definitely worth having as a starting point. Stop down to the usual shooting apertures for landscapes and it's very sharp. Your 50mm and 24mm lenses will probably get the most use from your ex...

Friendly hello

Welcome Louise. I've just re-joined (so to speak), and can say it's a great forum to be part of. I've just 'downgraded' toa Kr and am extremely impressed by it. It's a worthy purchase, trust me. Great noise control and an excellent sensor it would seem, and a very good kit lens (best kit lens of a...

Cleaning a Pentax SV

Hello, I'm new here. I inherited a Pentax SV + Super Takumar 55mm 1.8 and would like advice about how to clean them up - for example, there is a little corrosion around the edge of the film door. I would prefer to try myself, rather than sending it off to a specialist at great expense. Thanks in ...

Advice on Pentax DSLR required.

I think there will always be progressive improvements as far as sensors go with each new model released, although I'm not sure if the K-5 has a newer sensor than even the K-x and almost certainly not newer than the K-r. Electronics and software also improve with time. The K-5 obviously has more pi...

Advice on Pentax DSLR required.

Amazes me how many times people can think that something like the K-r will produce inferior images to the K-5. Is anyone suggesting this? Yes! The OP thought the Kr wouldn't produce images as good as the Canon 7D:wink: Not quite the same. Similar, but not the same. :) The fact is, any dSLR th...

Old Asahi Pentax

Would these be compatible with modern cameras (e.g. K5)? It looks like there are some filters in there too. Pentax cameras are particularly good at legacy support (provided the 'use aperture ring' option in the menus has been turned on). All PK(bayonet) lenses can be used without an adapter, older s...

Smear or Blooming

Hi everyone out there. I'm Geoff, I'm a new starter and still learning,as we do, i have bought a Pentax K5 quite recently, Cracking camera, truly unbelievable performance, but a problem i think is blooming or a thin band of stripes above and below the photograph negative, i've tried different lenses...

Smear or Blooming

Hi Geoff and welcome. I cannot immediately answer your question as I do not quite understand what you are seeing. But I'll try and help you start to get the bottom of it. What you get with the K-5 shouldn't be that different to what you get with your GX-10 in that respect. Apart from better of c...

Can I come Home Please???

I thought the A77 was the ultimate crop camera (according to Sony anyway). Looks very good on paper and the bloke at Jessops couldn't recommend it enough. (which made me suspicious straight away) The A77 is like the Canon 7D I also had! Which has a Gritty Sensor masked by processing, except S...

Can I come Home Please???

Been to Nikon Canon Sony and Back in the Last eighteen Months! FF (Hate the Term) and APSC but I have not been happy with any of it, a Sony A77 and A850 were the last straw! I was going to buy a Sony 850 as a backup for my Maxum 7D until I tried one. Even the reports said they were very noisy but I...

Can I come Home Please???

With Pentax, your crop-sensor frame is always half full, not half empty!
