Invertebrate Quiz...
You have a Green Marble Weevil, Lady GaGa and the endangered Japanese Frayed Tweed Moth. You can't tell the sensor is grubby. Excellent captures.

Invertebrate Quiz...
Mat, ditto re the sensor - no grubs, just bugs. :D The second image shows what I know as a 'Katydid'. All colourful and a bit out of the ordinary.

K200D - Raw vs Jpeg Noise at ISO 1600
Very decent results, I also see I'm pushing my K10D (same sensor) also a but further then before. As long as the exposure is good or even slightly over exposed it's most of the time very good.

Horses and foals in the wildlife reserve
Cheers Mat, the TC was on because I thought we may see some birds in reach but sods law says 2 grey herons land virtually together and they still look like specks of dirt on the sensor at 280mm. One of the few times I didnt have the 300mm and 1.7x

French trip - 3 pics
Why am I puzzled - it's the strong blue light showing - in the first 2 clearly from the Window and reflected onto the floor - BUT I did not notice the light on the floor when I was there . This is because the camera sensor is much more sensitive to blue light than your eye is, particularly when refl...

A 33-year-old lens
I think its been mentioned before on the forum somewhere, but the reason these old lenses work so well is due to the crop factor of the sensor, your only using the central part of the lens which is always going to be a lenses sweet spot:wink: PS lovely Dog, but I bet hes smelly when wet:lol:

The Red Arrows 2010
Fairford this Sunday was my first attempt to capture images of aircraft in flight. Still sorting out the few 'keeps' from the many 'also rans', but these two of the Red Arrows display team seemed perfect for the thread. Weather conditions on the day were pitiful when compared with those earlier in t...

No smokeless zone here
Well it's back, thanks for the vote of confidence. It seems if you remove your photo its a good way to stir up some support.:D:D:D Bl**dy prima donnas ;) Hehe. Only joking. Seriously, though, it was too good to lose from the forum... you just needed to give us all time to chew things over, I gues...

Lowland Landscapes (two photographs, reduced in size)
I bought a new (if you can call something made during Edward Heath's government, new) Hoya 2.8 28mm. It was very well reviewed at the time, except for slight softness at the edges, but I don't use those bits with my small sensor. Tried it out yesterday, between showers... Glastonbury Tour with Me...

Even if you are trying to record the scene accurately, tweaking is not necessarily cheating - it's a vital part of the process of recording the scene as you would actually see it. Sometimes you take a picture of something, and when you get back, the colours and contrast are disappointing compare...

This brings me back to a basic question about photography - are we trying to accurately record something, or produce something that looks nice. On this site. Talking about photography, no and no. But if you're asking about PUF, then yes and yes. Now I am really confused. Even if you are try...

Titan - An Experiment In HDR
I think it looks good. Good use of HDR, where it is being used to get over the problem of low dynamic range of the digital sensor. I like the colour for its natural look, despite the obvious challenges. I like the mono for drama in the sky and the light on the tank! Two nice pictures.

Harewood meet Pics

First few with the SIgma 10-20
I really like the last shot, Pentaxophile. It's a fantastic lens, mine has hardly been off my camera since I got it! The three on my "Gotham" thread were taken with it. I've found that using it in manual focus can often get round the problem of softness at the edges (when I manage to guess the right...

Iceland
It brings up the question whether photgraphy is about faiithfully recording something or making a pleasing image? If the former, then where do mono image fit in? I'm probably in a class of one here, but to me, photography is about whatever the photographer was aiming to do, and whether he achieved i...

First photo in PPG Premier Collection!
I'm still in shock, but I just had my first photo accepted to the PPG Premiere Collection! Funnily enough, after the debate in , the version that was accepted suffers from some barrel distortion and a sensor spot in the sky  Here is the corrected version: by , on Flickr ...

First Outing with Pentax M 75-150mm f4
Nice shot, if one wanted to be pedantic  the rider needs to be further left of the frame, to give them somewhere to go. And you have 2 dust spots on your sensor, left of the rear tyre. Off course this just pure jealosly on my part:oops: Davex.
