Moon Shot

Just looking for Pentax DSLR Moon & astro shots on the forum for reference when testing my K5 and came across yours Ted ...fantastic result there, quality result! Prime focus telescope shots are certainly the way to go and refractors seldom disappoint. A flat field low power barlow lens (1.4X -1.6x...

A bit of play in the snow!

Nice image but you have some dust on your sensor which needs to be cloned out. Best wishes, Kris.

Ouch that 50-135 is so sharp...

James Original on Flickr here (4.6Mb) Do not click on the link if a very out of focus nipple would offend you :D:D:D And yes, I have just spotted the dust spot - time for a sensor clean tommorow.

Some more shots from the beach

Some more shots from the beach

Some of the filth is blurred seagulls flying across my long exposure. I only have my tatty laptop to work on here and it is hard to tell the difference between bad spots on the monitor and dust spots on the sensor! Best wishes, Kris.

This was taken at lunch time today (6/1/2010) during the snow storm, The specs are snow, not dirt on the sensor. This has been cropped, and auto colour adjustment only. C & C as normal please

First shot with new (scary!) camera and lights!

I like the light on this face but the eyes are slightly too dark for me. I'm not so hot on the halo of fuzzy hair surrounding his head, would a darker background make that less obvious? I also find the folds in the front of his jumper, especially the top one, a bit distracting. You also appear t...

Rock Salt and Lentils (Macros)

Cool idea! :) I like the yellow dye one best. The stacked one is also impressive, good DOF for such high magnification. That looks like a hair on your sensor in the lentil one? It might also be visible in the yellow dye one.

Iceland 2010

Hi Rob, When you say; "These are as shot from the camera" do you mean straight Jpeg's or Raw's converted to Jpeg with no post processing? I ask because they all look flat to me. nr 1 and 4 would really make superb B&W's like Kris mentioned. Specially the last one. The first could use some clean...

Dunino Den

Do you mean five? Yes, I guess the range would have been too much unless you used a little bit of fill-in flash and that would be difficult to get looking natural. One might compromise and allow some burning out of the highlights then bringing up the foreground in PP. Not sure how many times that ...

Big Cat

How did he react when the flash went off? david Looked, and went back to cleaning himself - quite possibly he had just finished eating.

Spring is on its way . . .

About my bee day . . . I look after a few neighbouring properties whilst their owners are shivering in the UK winter (foolish people). When I visited one of them today I discovered it had been nominated as the local watering hole for quite a large number of bees. Several hundred, if not thousands...

The cross and cockerel

Colin, If you used spot metering on the cockerel, your camera may have been in two minds about whether to expose for the sky, or for the structure. I did see that the sky has some shades (darker to the left), so it is not totally 'blown'. At the same time, the building could have been a little ...

The cross and cockerel

Hi Colin, I'd crop much more tightly (that lovely 10 megapixel sensor in the K 10 will easily stand it). I'd concentrate solely on the two crosses and the weather cock, eliminating the large expanse of stone wall at the bottom, much of the featureless sky and the distracting dark shape on the ri...

more of the fun guy

Thanks guys. I have no idea if the spores are harmful to me or the lens  But I found my nose running (probably psychosomatic) and chose to leave it that way as some sort of defense :D At one point I forgot myself and removed the lens in front of the toms with the camera still switched on...

more of the fun guy

At one point I forgot myself and removed the lens in front of the toms with the camera still switched on.... probably sucked a cazillion little babies onto the sensor   Great shots thought, Is it difficult to compose? Regards PaulM

more of the fun guy

Here you go. I got lucky, just took this one shot, hand held, but with the body leaning against table, and it is usable  Click the image to see all the 'baby' fungus all over my sensor  ( this is a full frame)

Flatlands of Somerset: best in colour or monochrome?

Great version, Gareth. Very brooding and with more imapact: do you think my stuff lacks contrast? To answer your question I'd have certainly used f8, with my collection of dodgy manual focus lenses, I don't take chances with either aperture extreme, unless of course, the light gets really bad or...

Can anything be done with this ?

Seems you've something to do this week :) About macro, actually your 18-55mm has a greater magnification then your 50-200mm. Put your camera on manual focus set the focus the closest it can get and the 18-55 on 55mm that way you would have the greatest magnification at 1:2.9 (1cm on the sensor w...
