Down on the beach .. and not a macro shot in sight.

[quote:bacf3e933b="ChrisA"]You also need to clean your sensor!! Waiting for a rocket blower to arrive. I decided to put in a split screen focus from ebay as all of my macro lenses are manual focus and once done realised I had loads of dust in there. After all that I then took it out as it was trul...

Panorama's of SW England...

I love the SR sensors that FujiFilm make. We have an old S20Pro which was and is the only compact tu use a sensor with two photosensors per photosite to get an amazing dynamic range. It has an extra 4 stops of highlight information hidden in the RAW file, you can't possibly blow out the highlights w...

Yet another fly

Yes, I see what you mean about the backdrops .. gets a bit boring after a while although they all seem to land on that railing for some reason. Another on the railing but perhaps a bit of a different angle .. and one completely different this time. Vivitar 100mm F2/8 macro with Tamron 1.4X telea...

Clichés

A few cliché photos from Arizona for you. Only another 1200 or so to process :? I won't bore you with them all I promise! First a few from the Grand Canyon I didn't take the Bigma - but I wish I had, if only to try and get a good picture of the California Condors over the Ca...

trying on lady's slippers again!

Had a chance to go hunting for these Pink Lady's-Slippers again this afternoon, and managed to do it with mosquitos drawing blood. This time, found them on the edge of a cluster of fern (ferns?). C&C on these images, and for those that saw yesterday's post, comparisons? Taken with M 100 4...

55-300 First 'live fire' results

Thanks John, I take your point on the Woodpecker so I had a look through some of my other shots and found this Robin which I think is a better example. To be fair to the Woodpecker it was shot through my kitchen double glazing :) Is there some sensor dirt on the right hand side, above Robin's ...

Farnborough 2008 - 20th July

By the way, I really like of yours, but wondering what all the bits are, looks like you had a really filthy sensor, but guessing the thing had just taken off and it kicked up a load of muck. Looks like an air to air shot.:D Dan EDIT: Hmmmm, just seen you shot that at f/22... how dirty is ...

Jumping Spider

Cracking shot Clarky, but everyones talking rubbish:shock: your original post needs cropping on the left:wink: your second posting leaves to much space above the subject, plus it looks like youve left a dirty mark from the sensor showing:D PS; how on earth do you get jumping spiders to stay still...

Just a little showcase

Hmm do you think so or is digital a less forgiving technology and things tend to be sharp or not rather more quickly? I'm not sure I've understood this question right, but if you mean: "Is the actual subject range, with digital, over which the circle of confusion is a given size or smaller, sma...

Thought I would have a go at a Moon shot.

The moon moves surprisingly fast. A 400mm lens on a Pentax dSLR is . The moon moves at about 360/(24x60x60) = 0.0042 degrees per second, which as a fraction of the frame is therefore: 0.0042 / 3.44 On the K10D, the frame is 3872 pixels wide, so the moon moves at (0.0042/3.44) x 3872 =...

Thought I would have a go at a Moon shot.

Thanks for your comments Chris. Can a Bigma be handheld? I don't know (I don't have one), but I wouldn't bother trying to, for the moon. Without a telescope you're right out at the limitations of the lens and sensor resolution, so the slightest lack of sharpness just ruins it. The focus has to be ...

HDR ?

Why do my attempts at HDR not look HDR ..ish. Well it does a bit. Either that or you've used nicely-balanced fill-in flash with a guide number of about 100,000. But I prefer the restrained look too. I occasionally like impressionism, but in small doses, and in a kind of "hmm", sort of way. ...

HDR ?

Apart from dust on the sensor it looks ok to me - nice pic.

HDR ?

Apart from dust on the sensor it looks ok to me - nice pic. mmm, I cleaned the sensor after zooming in to look at the "ufo", which is actually 2 airplanes if you look closely where there was a difference in the time it took to bracket the 3 shots.

Posted by Mike-P on 16/08/2008 - 22:49

HDR ?

Are you bracketing shutter speed or aperture? PS... I'm curious as to why some of the sensor spots look like they have ghosts down and to the right a little. Me too, but the way the 'ghosts' are bigger, would indicate a larger aperture, so f/8 and f/6.7 or something like that. The sky looks ...
