Gunk on the sensor? :)

Yeah it deserved a second chance :D too bad of the dots though on the leaf, can you clone that out?

Gunk on the sensor? :)

Hey Stefan, are you on a trip down memory lane? This one is almost two years old! :D Thanks for commenting on this. It was a feeble attempt to recreate something like the one I took on Maui ( ). Of course I can clone out the spots on the leaf, but I thought it's not worth it... Prieni

Gunk on the sensor? :)

Gareth, I was referring to the big black blob (i.e. the shadow of the fly). You are right, the spots are on the leaf. I must have hit a low spot with this thread, shortly before Christmas and no financial crisis in sight. Sigh, those were the days... Prieni

My new Sigma 10-20 EX DC!!!

that may not be the fault of the lens...converging verticals can be caused by not having the sensor vertical. in the above image it appears the camera was leaning backward when the shot was taken... wide angles must be parallel to the subject on both horizontal and verticle planes to minimize disto...

New lens - quick walk

Bear in mind that both photographs were taken as JPEG's and have not been tweaked in any way. I sometimes think that a lot of photographs that we see have started off with all sorts of defects that have all been removed by PS before they are posted. I'm sure this is true, and I'm not at all criti...

Caesalpinnia Pulcherrima - Sigma 105 macro

[Interesting charts, Dan. I see that the 77mm Ltd is significantly sharper than the FA 100mm macro, which is sharper than the best Canon 100mm macro, which is sharper than this Sigma... ...Sigmas represent good value for money, but tell me, why do people buy Canniks? G Because they're deluded...

Id appreciate your tips please, first attempts with my SLR :

For a first effort I think they're excellent! :D As for what settings, etc to use I'd recommend a trip to your local library to find a book on photography basics (don't worry about it being specific to any camera or even digital cameras - the basics haven't really changed that much in over 100 ...

Id appreciate your tips please, first attempts with my SLR :

When I was a little kid and my Dad was teaching me photography he gave me a good analogy which I'll pass on to you now; In order to create a photograph you need to take your film (sensor in these digital days) and coat it with light (the word photograph literally means "light painting")...

opinions please

1a, 2a, 3b, 4a. 1A has too much sky in my opinion. If you leave it in, you might clone out the vapour trail. Your sensor needs cleaning, it's filthy. Look at the mid grey area of sky in 2b.

opinions please

thanks for the input peeps. The dirty sensor is annoying, i need to get a cleaning kit, but most of the specks are on the nd grad. it was quite windy with specks of dust landing on the grad. I hadn't noticed that I'd centred the horizon so much/often. Mind you each set is exactly the same pict...

stricken ferry

one of the nicest HDR pictures I've seen, usually they look a bit weird for my taste. BTW I think your sensor could do with a clean.

mono trees

I quite like this shot, I disagree with Malo though. The darker trees on the outer edges hold the thing together and stop the eye wandering out of the frame, as George says not a great pic but very acceptable nontheless.......and way better than some of the cr@p that comes off my sensor.

Tree and Stone

I think I like it . . . but I'm not sure. I need more time to digest it's visual attributes. You do come up with some good ideas. Inspirational. At first, I thought you might have some serious sensor cleaning to do

Spring is here - plant life

Cheers guys, I'm a primary colour sort of person - never really saw the point of having an RGB sensor then converting the output to monochrome... <ducks to avoid flying brickbats from forum members who consider such things heresy> Fiona might have missed the boat a bit - most o...

Morning Macro Madness

I agree about the K20D. I wonder if it's because it's a CMOS instead of CCD sensor. I know nothing about either technology, but it seems to me that the image quality is that bit more refined on the K20D compared to the K10D. I don't print my photographs, so cannot comment on how that side of it c...

Down on the beach .. and not a macro shot in sight.

You also need to clean your sensor!! Waiting for a rocket blower to arrive. I decided to put in a split screen focus from ebay as all of my macro lenses are manual focus and once done realised I had loads of dust in there. After all that I then took it out as it was truly awfull, the top part of t...
