Lightroom 4
IMO Lightroom is the program to start off with as it's designed for photographers rather than just being a graphics editing program like photoshop, etc. Because of this Lightroom includes all the cataloguing, GPS tagging, web publishing, photobook publishing features very valuable to photographer...

Lightroom 4
Question for Smeggypants.Apart from cleaning up 35mm neg scans, which I use a bitmap editor for, I use Lightroom and Nik software plugins for 100% of my photo editing and managing. Which bitmap editor are you using please? Also do you have any tips on how best to use it for cleaning up those 35mm sc...

Epson 800 Printer
I've had several Epson printers and found a very useful (FREE) Utilities program. See this link:- http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml I used it to reset one printer after it stopped working because the head cleaning sponge pad was fully saturated. I carefully removed the sponge pad (wearing la...

Restoring the DOF and field of view of a fast fifty... without going FF
Got a little adapter called a 'Lens Turbo' through the post today. I attached it to my 'well known APSC mirrorless camera' and mounted my Pentax 50mm f1.7. The adapter works like a teleconverter in reverse. The 135mm imaging circle is reduced to the APSC sensor area, effectively giving the same f...

Image Content issues vs Output Needs
If you just send to your printer 'as is' and let them print to size there really isn't any reference, other than actually ordering the print, to judge what it will look like or for Nigel to assess what quality would be like at that size. However if you expand to print resolution yourself and the...

Advice on filters
If you're using NDgrads on a crop sensor, which obviously all us Pentax digital photographers are:wink: then Hard grads are the way to go. The graduation line isn't anywhere near as visible as you might think and only really becomes evident at UWA focal lengths, although I use it at 12mm and don't h...

Bright harsh sunlight and the perception of superior lenses
The camera's sensor cannot 'capture' the same levels of white and dark as the human eye can (be it by way of clever brain trickery or otherwise) and with high contrast scenes you are better exposing for the highlights (underexposing usually and using the histogram) then brightening the shadows after...

What's your highest ever daily 'photo tally'?
I take around 500-600 during a 90 minute football match. I try to time the first shot then keep the shutter release depressed for a couple more frames. Generally the first frame in the sequence is the best but you never know with sport. About 5% good enough especially as it is more difficult to g...

Any suggestions welcome
Probably! It has a 16mp sensor, whereas the K-x is 12.3mp, but the X-5 is not in the same league as the K-x despite the higher resolution. The K-x is a proper photographer's tool with all of the flexibility that a DSLR brings. I suppose whether you keep the X-5 or not depends on your needs, but...

(Almost) no more new pics
You brought something different and special to the Gallery, Axel. I for one will miss your input. Of course, when Pentax's next DSLR contains the 24 mp Sony sensor, you may choose rejoin us... I hope so. Viel Glück!

Moiré
The reduction was from 3000x4000 pixels to 1200x1600, so quite a lot really. As to sensor, 12m, 2/3" X-Trans (there's a hint!) CMOS.

Pentax FF Dead, Maybe
Hopefully, this gossip is untrue! http://ricehigh.blogspot.de/2013/08/a-latest-interview-with-japanese-ricoh.html Q: Now, what's going on for the Pentax Full Frame thing? A: Our development team is still working on it and the project is not aborted. http://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-n...

Pentax FF Dead, Maybe
Faster more accurate AF, faster more capable buffers and better low light ( Higher ISO ) performance will always be highly desirable by many photogrpahers. the latter for me... I'd love to be able to take pictures at ISO102400 and beyond in low light conditions with noise levels comparable to what y...

Pentax FF Dead, Maybe
Stuey wrote: I'm still hopeful that Pentax release a ff dslr that way we can get back to whinging about the lack of long lenses most of us could not afford even if more existed I don't see why. A 300mm lens in APC is exactly the same lens as in FF. It only seems to be a 450mm lens in APC , beca...

Pentax FF Dead, Maybe
I looked up some advice for a good resolution for a 4"x6" ( 10x15cm) print and 300dpi was recommended. 1200x1800px. Just over 2.1MP should do it then. What DPI do you peeps print at? I think these days for many jobs 300dpi may be more than needed. I've read that 240 is commonly used, even a...

Pentax FF Dead, Maybe
John Wrote: For example, the crop factor means APS-C is better than FF for sports and nature shots. Our long lenses are even longer and if that's what we want, then APS-C is better . Well john, I am not sure if you know, how it works: The crop factor of APS to FF is 1.5. So your 300mm lens lo...

Pentax FF Dead, Maybe
Well you do make quite a few assumptions and dubious statements that are presented as fact but may well not be, for example the 110 is not more manageable than a 35mm SLR or a DSLR. We need to define "manageable" in which case my meaning is the ability to shoot the required image easily and effectiv...
