Moiré

I have another camera without an AA filter that I bought as a light-weight jobby for when I didn't want to lug all my Pentax gear around.

Anyway, used it to shoot the Millennium bridge and the moiré in the metal mesh walkway has to be seen to be believed.

I posted (but deleted) the resulting photo on another site to ask if this level of moiré was normal for this particular camera, only to find that when posted the JPEGS showed no evidence of moiré at all.

So, given that the moiré shows when I view both the JPEGS and RAW on my computer, why does it disappear when the images are posted on-line?

(And is this the way to deal with the moiré effects with the K5IIs :lol

Probably different resolutions and if the display resolution is low enough it might not show anything.

As I've said before, I haven't seen any significant moire effects with any non-AA camera. Not so far anyway.

How many MP is the camera - this may also be relevant.

If the site is asking clients browsers to resize the image liek this forum does, or as in the example of facebook which processes ( strips EXIF and compresses ) the image, then this could very likely remove the moire

Moiré can be added to a photo by the re-sizing algorithm or
a different algorithm can take it away

Going from about 5,000 pixels wide down to 1,000 pixels
wide means losing 80% of the pixels or keep 1 lose 4 so
it's hardly surprising that there is a change.

The reduction was from 3000x4000 pixels to 1200x1600, so quite a lot really.

As to sensor, 12m, 2/3" X-Trans (there's a hint!) CMOS.
