Well some liked the brassing effect in the old days but many others hated that their lovely sexy black finish that they paid extra for, was ruined! I'm rather disappointed they wasted the MX name on a compact with a tiny sensor and no viewfinder option. Not the digital MX I was hoping for. Plus th...

Intelligent Zoom?

An intriguing feature of the A30 is “intelligent zoom”, which Pentax describes as “an evolved form of digital zoom”. At least one reputable camera shop website says “intelligent zoom” works by “cropping into” the central portion of the CCD sensor image. In the past, the words “digital zoom” were...

Intelligent Zoom?

it sounds to me like it crops at the sensor then applies an algorithm to to bring the "resolution" back up to 10 mp...

Cost effective Circular Polariser Options?

I have Hoya Pro1 CPs and don't have an issue with cleaning - they never get dirty except the occasional fleck of dust which can be blown odd.

Need Advice K5 or K30

I returned to Pentax and discovered DSLR's with the KX and then the KR before moving up to the K5 which has been a delight. The arrival of the K30 means you get more of the K5's spec such as a pentaprism and weather sealing. You have to decide if you want and need the K5 external AF selection swi...

Need Advice K5 or K30

K5 has more appeal because of its 14 bit raw and other pro features and body also looks better than k30 IMO but autofocus is the only place where I lean towards k30, have any one of you seen real life difference in autofocus is it that huge ?? I returned to Pentax and discovered DSLR's with the KX a...

Lasers and Cameras

Thanks for that. I kind of thought if it can burn my eyes(as in just being in the pub) it can burn my sensor.

Is photoshop ruining photography

I'm not sure I get this , IMHO there is no such thing as 'real' in photography , because a photograph is a two dimensional interpretation of a three dimensional world . All of the stuff needed to capture that version of reality are variable ,lens, camera ,sensor, or film, and the chemicals u...

Is photoshop ruining photography

For me the answer to the question posed is a qualified 'No'. I use Photoshop, but I don't replace skies, I don't add objects that weren't there, I very rarely remove anything (except sensor spots). I do enhance contrast, levels and saturation, I do a bit of dodging and burning and I do work with...

Is photoshop ruining photography

"Is photoshop ruining photography" ? Of course it isn't. It's just a piece of software. As for image editing, as John says people have been manipulating photos since photography began, so you could have well asked, "Are Darkrooms ruining photography?" In the world of "news" and "Adverts" ...

Low ISO

Apparently the Canon 1D Mk III goes down to 50 if you turn on the 'extended' ISO settings in the menu. The ISO Sensitivity Values aren't very accurate on that Camera 50 ISO is exactly the same as 100 ISO  Both are measured by DX0 to be 73 ISO 1600 ISO is only 1171 ISO  -

Low ISO

The best Dynamic and Tonal Range for the K-5 is at ISO 80 which is actually ISO 70 Select the measurements tab. -

Low ISO

The best Dynamic and Tonal Range for the K-5 is at ISO 80 which is actually ISO 70 Select the measurements tab. - Interesting that the forced extended range to 80 is considered the best. All about how much voltage applied to the sensor gives the best results.

Low ISO

I can't quite follow your logic here Algi and you do seem to be contradicting yourself in this thread. You said earlier "The best Dynamic and Tonal Range for the K-5 is at ISO 80 which is actually ISO 70". If this is true, then the dynamic range at ISO 80 without the Highlight / Shadow correctio...

Why are sensor spots....

more visible with one particular lens? Managed to get a couple of shots of lynx helicopters in flight (55-300) and quite clearly there are some dust spots, quite a few, now at first they weren't visible on other lenses, but after playing with the 18-55mm managed to get them visible but only just,...

Why are sensor spots....

it's probably not so much the lens but the apertures that your using, the smaller the aperture the more pronounced dust bunnies will be, try snapping a plain white wall or piece of paper at various apertures and you'll see the difference.

Why are sensor spots....

Aye just had a look through alot of my other pictures and most were around f8 so not so obvious, but I think with using shutter priority the aperture was closed right down making them really obvious. Good news for me though I managed to get rid of the bunnies, between the shake system lots and lo...
