D-slrs and lasers..

Strangely enough it only created one line so it doesn't seem so bad, maybe it was a weak point in the sensor?

D-slrs and lasers..

Looking at the video, the line that has appeared on the sensor is as far as I can see, perfectly parallel to the bottom of the sensor. The initial suggestion is that it has taken out one or more rows of pixels without touching adjacent rows. Given the size of a pixel on the sensor the chance of this...

Photokina 2010 Expectations ?

More usefully and on-topic, its amazing how close the rumoured spec of this projected "K5" is exactly the same as the rumours. Ok, same Sony sensor in both, but everything else...? If that's the case, its going to be very messy for Pentax if they both come out with virtually identical (at a gla...

Meteor Shower

a couple tips for meteors... don't rule out wide to moderate tele's..... if you aren't shooting with a telescope, don't fret it... little white streaks against black sky is of little visual appeal to anybody but an astronomer, and they got better lenses for this that you do anyways... SHOOT S...

Pocket camera opinions sought

I'd consider micro four thirds - the image quality is vastly superior to small sensor cameras as soon as you head up the ISO range, and the Oly Pen and Lumix GF1 are reasonably compact (esp paired with pancake lenses).

I agree the micro 4/3rd system is a great option, I have an Olympus EPL-1 with a ...

Pocket camera opinions sought

Ned Bunnell, president of Pentax USA, has the Leica D-Lux 4 which is basically the same camera as the Panasonic LX3 - just with an expensive red Leica sign on it. It caused a lot of controversy when he bought it rather than an Optio. I don't have a pocket camera. It is something I've thought abo...

Specsavers

I have my second set of varifocals with antiglare coating and photogray feature and couldn't be happier with the result (even though they cost -all up with frames- as much as a lower priced Canon-L lens).:P I managed to wreck the coating and lens surface of my first set through cleaning them with...

Thanks all ........... but time to move on

I wish you luck! Shame that you switched into Nikon's camera but this is your own choice. I hope you'll enjoy with this make. By the way I then started to second shoot for a wedding photographer who used Canon. He would not let me use my Pentax so I had to always use the second body he had This i...

Thanks all ........... but time to move on

Or it could just be simply that the lead photographer doesn't want to deal with differences in colour rendering. If that was the case, he wouldn't let him use a Nikon either. If I was in the shoes of Jon, I'd look for another mentor, since this one is obviously an a$$. It's not the camera that mak...

Thanks all ........... but time to move on

Good luck Jon. I think I'd wait a month or so before jumping ship, though. I came across this little rumour on another Pentax site... PENTAX K-5 - New Pentax flagship model •16 Megapixel Sensor •Maximum expanded ISO of 25600 •7 frames per second •To be officially announcd on September 20th ...

A topic for boring ppl like me :p

The top one the FA* 250-600 f/5.6 would go perfectly together with a DA*60-250 f/4 don't you think? :) Re-release it as a DA* and it would be perfect! Indeed, with SDM and quick-shift focus. They can also bring the price, the size and weight down if they adapt it for the APS-C sensor. :)

Stupid Local Council

Hmmm, looking at the original article again: A spokesperson for South Lanarkshire Council said: “If a photographer takes a photograph of an individual that is the individual’s personal information and they must give consent to its use. “It would be very difficult for the council to ensure that...

new model speculation

"With a maximum ISO of 25600 (4 times that of the K-7" That is 2 stops faster than the K-7 maximum of 6400. It's not 4 times faster. each full stop, wether in aperture or shutter (or iso), is actually a halving or doubling of the light reaching the sensor..(or the sensors apparent sensitivity). so...

new model speculation

so let's hope for a moment that Pentax adds to it's current lineup two more aps cams... one above the k7, one above the kx.... and drops the prices on the current line-up... then lets hop Pentax and Samsung release a FF Evil (yes I said full frame as in Samsungs 24x36 sensor) model using the k-moun...

new model speculation

I still obsessing over the idea of a FF Evil... with kmount.. Samsung does all the r&d and pentax only has to re-badge and add Pef to the firmware... Pentax did consider the video market way back when.. and Samsung really needs a pro level camcorder..... (1980-something Pentax Nexa video recor...

new model speculation

well the 10 or so mm difference only matters if there is a new line of lenses to push on the consumer.... which is a stupid move for Pentax to do right now while there are buyers jumping brands over the ff/slow af issue... re-badging a Samsung evil makes sense... and for Samsung orphaning it's d-sl...
