New Pentax Optio cameras fully leaked

A terrible wasted opportunity to offer a really decent compact with manual modes and a decent sensor. What if they had put the k-x sensor in it? :( For me, it's just naff novelty camera, like the rubbish fake SLRs of the 70s. The H-90 looks nice though, I prefer the minimal '80s look and it...

FoV vs AoV

Indeed Hefty :) So if I'm correct then you can get the same field of view with the same lens on APS-C or on FF if both aspect ratios are the same right? Let's see... A 50mm lens APS-C sensor with 1.5x crop and 3:2 ratio at a distance of 12 meter gives me 692.27cm diagonal FOV FF 3:2 ratio a...

FoV vs AoV

Of course you can get the same FOV on FF with the same lens by moving closer to the subject, but that's not what we were talking about in the discussion on FF. We were talking about the difference between sensor formats when all else is equal. So your point is correct but irrelevant. True but if ...

FoV vs AoV

Distance is important, though we don't have to state what it is, just that it is the same (for the discussion in question). I use FOV because that's the popular photographic term for the amount of the scene that is projected onto the sensor.

iPad or iPad Which One?

If I open a book as a PDF Stefan, and I tilt the screen, will it automatically scroll down at the same rate I am reading it? I don't think so. That is what I like about e-books rather than a PDF. Huh how does it know how fast you read? if you mean auto-scrolling then yes that's standard with PDF re...

The K-m and the K200D used the Sony 10.2MP CCD sensor which is no longer in production. An unfortunate state of affairs but not one Pentax can be entirely blamed for!

Can I start by saying I know nothing about camera/sensor disign. So my question would be why could they not use a different sensor. My next point would be that Pentax are to blame if they had used a sensor that was not available for the envisaged production run of the camera. Maybe the case for the ...

Humidity and Fungus any ideas on how to reduce either?

My lenses all live in Lowepro lens cases with a bag of silica gel each, they do come out fairly often so air does circulate. Then again, it's a fairly steady temperature in my house and also pretty dry. If I've taken gear out in damp or cold weather I do let it warm up and dry out first - for exa...

f. stop V. Aperture value

The aperture is the hole situated in the lens of the camera that controls the amount of light that is allowed to reach the sensor. Certain modes on a camera allow the user to change the size of the aperture therefore changing how much light is allowed through. Apertures are represented by a seri...

Focus on Imaging 2010-Where are Pentax?

I like it too, I think I would prefer it to the Canon G11. I know it has a smaller sensor but it has the Pentax badge on it and looks great. Will be interesting to see how it performs. Hopefully Someone will have it a Focus.

Focus on Imaging 2010-Where are Pentax?

The Pentax JPEG output from their compacts is (IMO) better than most of the others and the lenses are pretty decent as well (surprise! surprise!). I really liked the handling and JPEG output of the earlier Pentax Optio A40 and bought a P70 because it had the advantage of a 28mm wide end, b...

Price depression

It would be most unwise, in my opinion, to desert Pentax now or in the near future. The company's continued commitment to backwards compatability and the excellent range of limited edition lenses mean that it is possible to build a comprehensive system for as much or (vitually) as little as you ...

Olympus are hampered by a silly little sensor (what were they thinking of?) Yeah......the nerve they had, by producing   Stunning photos Martin. I am almost jealous of your digital Pen! I'd love Pentax to come up with something like it. Better be careful this doesn't develop into a ...

Price depression

I didn't refer to the Olympus system as "crappy" or that they had a "nerve" to produce it. I simply allude to the fact that it is rare to find a comparative test which does not draw attention to the fact that the 4/3 sensor is prone to noise at higher ASAs (all those pixels crammed into a half-frame...

I'm not bashing Pentax Gwyn. Why would I? It brought me so much pleasure and great pictures. Me changing systems had to do with my changing style of photography and opening the world to some other fine optics. Both have their good and bad points if you look hard enough. IMO sensor size in this case i...

There are also rumours beginning to rise about some new Pentax lenses on DPR Pentax forum, as well as a possible new APS-C body. 20mm f2.0 28mm f2.0 10-16mm f4.0 The body, if rumours are to be believed, is 'just' a K7s ie a K7 with the low-light performance sensor of the Kx. As for the lense...

The Realistic Wants List

I have never been overly impressed with Pentax's digital compacts.(I have a feeling that I'm gonna regret saying that!). So... I'd quite like to see something special and a bit different, in that area. A fixed focal length (35-40mm equiv) compact with an APS size sensor. Something a bit like the Sig...
