iPad or iPad Which One?

Stefan please stop, your last post is just embarrassing. You're getting so many facts wrong! Here are your errors in nice one-liners, I can't be bothered to quote everything.
Most iPhone users are students? Hmm.
The facebook app is quite different from the facebook webpage. It has push notification, for one thing.
You don't appear to understand how most video gets onto the iPhone. It isn't via 3G, that's for sure, unless you are referring to low bandwidth stuff like Youtube.
Ipods support Apple lossless, but only total nerds use it because normal people can't hear the difference.
Several people have already said they enjoy reading books on the iphones, that's why we like having books available (legally-bought ebooks aren't released in text format, so you're out of luck).
The iPad syncs automatically - we're talking about a large screen device, not an iphone or your smartphone.
If you really want to sync over the web you can do it with Apple's MobileMe, or with Google Apps (I use Apps).
Yes, we can all convert video, and we could all spend time searching the non-Apple legal MP3 download sites, OR we could go for the convenient option and get it all from iTunes.

Yes, but it's much quicker to just use the App - it's already signed in, and gives me a quick, simple overview without all the fussy flashing advertising. OK, so I have to open the camera App to take a photo or flick to video. What phone with a camera doesn't have an application or button for starting up the camera? Yes, but having the choice to change what you sync, when and not having it dictated to you by Apple? I think that's a good choice.Out of the box it's normal that a smartphone sync e-mail, contacts, calender and notes, besides that I've the option to say it should sync my music folder or any other folder.
And having Apple say what to sync and what not and when is not a good choice, Apple is not deciding what I would do in my life.

Stefan, Stefan, Stefan.
Think, think, think.
Negative, negative, negative.
Never looking at the positive.
Games:-
PSP over 700 mainly on disc average price £19.99 - £34.99 each
DS over 3,500 mainly on cartridge average price £19.99 - £34.99 each
iPod touch / iPhone over 25,000 games, average price £.59 - £5.99 or 1,000s of which are free, no cartridge, no disc, no packaging, no ordering online and waiting, no queuing in a shop with spotty teenagers.
I have a PSP and DS for sale by the way if, you're interested, there are of no use to me anymore, due to owning an iPhone and actually taking it with me, and not having to carry spare disks or cartridges.
Yes a lot of other apps are on other devices, but they are easier to buy, update, install, run and use on an iPhone.
Video:-
Apple always has gone for customer experience, the 2MP camera in the iPhone / 3G was not capable of outputting video at 30FPS, so they didn't do it. At all. The app you quote shoots video at 10FPS i.e. crap.
The 3GS has video shooting as standard at DVD (480P) resolution, at 30 FPS, with auto focussing and selective focus points via the touch screen. When shot, you can instantly edit it, email it, publish it to Youtube or Mobileme gallery. Easily.
Students:-
Excel is useful to them and the complete works of Shakespeare isn't. Well....
Syncing:-
Yes everything you mention is possible on other platforms, but I don't have to open a browser and login to sync bookmarks for example, it's just there, with music I don't sync a folder, I sync playlists, or artists or genres. With photos, I sync albums, or smart albums, or faces, or places (check iPhoto 09) etc.
The point is, it's made easy for the consumer to do as they do consider customer experience when doing it.
GTG for now as battery on my 17" desktop replacement laptop is just about to run out after nearly 6 hours constant use!

Tim it seems everything is about iTunes now.
You can just download whole CD's or songs and videos from amazon for example, so I don't know what you mean with searching?

If I open a book as a PDF Stefan, and I tilt the screen, will it automatically scroll down at the same rate I am reading it? I don't think so. That is what I like about e-books rather than a PDF.
Yes, we are getting lazy. I prefer to call it efficient, but lazy will do. I am quite happy with this as I still exercise and eat healthily thanks to Apps on my iPhone.
I think you are getting confused with my comment about syncing. I said that Apple DO NOT dictate what I sync and when. This may be the same with other systems, but I was simply pointing out that there is a choice.

Danny I've no idea what you're going to with those games?
Yes they might be fun but not something I would buy an iPhone for... sorry.
Once again an apple standard, if I don't want Itunes on my pc I'm pretty much useless...
All in all it's fine what it can do it's nothing wrong with it but still it does not offer something special that's life changing, instead of you forcing to use Apple but well Microsoft has the same problem a bit differently but still there
So basicly why should I buy an Iphone instead of something else?
If you name app then name some really useful apps.

if you mean auto-scrolling then yes that's standard with PDF reader and if your phone has the sensor needed it will automaticly make it portrait or landscape.

Stefan, I'm gonna make a guess here, something that hopefully might explain our different points of view.
And it is a guess, maybe a generalisation that is completely wrong, but a guess none the less.
You are a young student, which makes cost important to you.
I'm self employed and in my 30s, with a bit more disposable income.
Cost or outright specifications seem to be more important to you, ease of use, customer experience are more important to me.
As an example:-
You like your Windows phone, I don't. Went to unlock one the other day, the first thing that happened was a pop up that asked if I wanted to subscribe to anti virus software. I wanted to throw it at the wall. You might class this as normal and usual, I class it as despicable for a phone, and gives me a damn good insight into what to expect from that product. I really really don't give a s*** how bloody good or bad it is, what it can or cannot do even if it's far superior to my iPhone because it's susceptible to viruses for crying out loud!
Another example:-
Your Cowon v iPod example. Your main reason for the Cowon is specifically audio quality. I did google it and saw what others said, and already posted what T3 said about it, that is, that overall the iPod touch is a better all round product.
Again, truth be told, I don't really care, because the quality, to my ears, is very very good with my free iPod touch - sorry, iPhone. I don't have to carry a seperate gadget as it's in my phone. Most of my music playing from it is in the car, where the kit supports it, has a wireless remote control, a small screen to show what music is playing , with album cover, which gets paused when I get a phone call, which continues afterwards where it left off, and..........
There is a reason why the most popular built in music adaptor supported in cars is the Ipod connector, so the music quality is obviously good enough for the likes of BMW, Mercedes etc. to fully integrate iPod / iPhone control in their cars. Can't find Cowon S9 support from any car manufacturer mind you.
Do you own a Cowon S9, or do you use your phone for music? We know you use your phone for music, we don't know if you have a Cowon. If you don't have a Cowon and use your phone for music, what exactly is your argument??? Yeah, it's better but I bought something else? Quality was that important to you, that you know what the best is but won't buy it?
We have such different mindsets, and such different opinions that I struggle to believe that we both bought Pentax!!! Honestly, it staggers me!

Stefan, have you tried any Apple product? Have you been in an Apple store and just had a play with everything on display? From your responses, I don't think you have. For that matter, have you ever been in a Microsoft shop? Do they even exist?
Firstly to explain about the book reader on my iPhone: when I open the book, the further I tilt the phone, the faster the page scrolls (this allows me to read a book with one hand, and say, drink a cup of coffee with the other).
The argument about Apple being in charge of everything they do: is a great concept to me, and one that you choose to buy into or not. I love the fact that they have created an operating system that is so secure it does not require anti virus software to be installed by the user. Microsoft on the other hand, have somehow "brainwashed" the masses into thinking that it's ok to have an operating system that is not secure and requires YOU to buy/install extra anti-virus once you've got your product home. If you were sold a house that had no locks on the doors or windows, and a burgler lurking outside, would you not complain? So why not complain about an operating system that is suseptable to viruses?

Neither; I don't accept the premise of your question. Real life isn't quite so black and white as that, of course. There are a large number of alternative hypotheses between those two extremes. I would say that, in many cases, a relatively poor product has been purchased at an exaggerated price because of the success of a marketing strategy.

Note that any operating system is, to a degree, susceptible to viruses. Now in my opinion Apple's OS, for example, is inherently less susceptible than Windows. That's because it's built around an OS kernel which is inherently more secure by design (and which wasn't designed by Apple, by the way - it's actually, at its core and origin, an old Unix kernel from the '80s).Microsoft on the other hand, have somehow "brainwashed" the masses into thinking that it's ok to have an operating system that is not secure and requires YOU to buy/install extra anti-virus once you've got your product home. But the main reason that Windows is more susceptible is that it's more popular. Viruses and trojans written for it are more likely to find a victim, hence that's where the miscreants who like to write them concentrate their efforts.
