Plunge to film...

I grew up with film and still prefer it for lots of reasons (although I only B&W film now - and not for a while). I have developed my own film in the past but not printed it (limited space, time, equipment and not enough motivation!). I have used Ilford processing & scanning (not printing) and fo...

Best Film body to get.

If it's just manual focus manual everything and small then I'd agree with most folks and vote for the MX. I've been using one that I bought 2nd hand in 1984 and it's never let me down. I did have it serviced once as the rubber had started to perish but that happens to all old cameras. The best au...

Best Film body to get.

I have a KX too but the fact you have to have the wind-on lever sticking in your eye in order to activate the light meter drives me nuts. I believe that you can have it modified to remove that "feature" but it isn't trivial. Having used many (but by no means all) Pentax film cameras my favourite...

Best Film body to get.

I can tell you that I have seen versions of the MX manual where it does exclude lithium. Or it might be one of the edtions of the Pentax Way. Lithium batteries do need some caution and correct use, as Boeing are currently discovering and as we found out a whiloe back in Sony laptops.

Interesting, I'm currently using the CR1 in my ME Super, and so far so good. In the manual for Super A it is specified that it can take two 1,5V batteries or one 3V lithium battery. I have a feeling that this isn't stated previously due to the fact that lithium batteries didn't really exist commonl...

The MZ Range

I have just been GIVEN an MZ-5 with the 28-70mm SMC Pentax-FA f4 lens and the 100-300mm SMC Pentax-F f4.5-5.6 zoom -- all in very good condition BUT camera is so 'Plasticky' -- the flash already has a bit broken off so it does noy stay up any more and the 100-300mm zoom does not 'zoom' any more! I ...

The MZ Range

My first Pentax was a ZX-7 (bought in the US so ZX not MZ). I know it isn't the best camera Pentax ever made but it was great for getting me back into photography, and the ist Ds was just like a digital version of it, so the transfer to digital was also relatively painless. If it hadn't been for ...

Spotmatic F help

Just bought the above sans lens and then read about the open aperture system and it seems that it won't work with all m42 lenses? I am planning to use it with a helios 55mm f2 (has a pin at the back but no A/M setting). Really want to get out with camera as soon as it arrives do I need a new lens...

MZ50 film removal

Any ideas how to get a half used film out of an MZ50? I assume the auto rewind will send the leader back into the cassette. If I take it into a darkroom will the wind-on spool rotate to let me pull the film out? Answers on a..., well on here actually. :D Thanks, Kris.

MZ50 film removal

I think that if you open the back in the darkroom you could lift out the cassette and then press the rewind button, the clutch will disengage and you can pull the film off the take-up spool. Only guessing though, I accept no responsibility for any personal injury

MZ50 film removal

Possibly not very helpful, but 'back in the day' you could get film leader retrievers... Or you could try this Note: I haven't!

WTB Pentax Super A parts

I know it is a long shot - but does anybody have an old non working Super A with a decent film door and base plate that they would be willing to cannibalise? I haven't used this camera for years but fancy bringing it out of mothballs for a play this year. Mine is in great condition - except fo...

Question about screw-mounts

If you look on Wiki.. about T mounts you will find out the specs. A lot of old preset manual lens had a T Mount. This helped the stockists as they only had to stock the basic lens and then could sell the T mount Adapter to fit the various makes of camera. Some Spotting scopes have this Screw...

Buying an Old Manual Focus SLR

Hi all... I currently shoot a K5, and also have an old school 645N medium format for special occasions, which I love, and regularly use, but is a pretty big beast... So I'm looking at getting an old manual focus Pentax film slr for a project I'm doing (I already have plenty of m and a lenses)......
