Recommended Pentax repairers in the UK?

When they 'fixed' my sensor banding problem the camera came back with the same problem, twice. However, I did find them to be very amenable and generally efficient with the attempted repairs.

Recommended Pentax repairers in the UK?

Suely 'expensive' is a relative term. 'If' the camera is worth repairing it's worth doing properly. This requires a degree of skill which doesn't happen over night. Cars are 'repaired' by 'expert' mechanics for rarely less than £50 per hour. Try calling out a plumber or gas fitter and see wha...

Pentax (P)Z1 troubleshooting

[Copied out of another thread] I have received my Z1 from Chiswick Cameras and it has problems with AF lenses. Only one of my AF lenses will auto-focus - a Pentax DAL 18-55mm Macro zoom. I have another Pentax, 2 Sigmas (One new) and a Tamron that won't a-f with it. I've checked the contacts and cle...

Pentax (P)Z1 troubleshooting

Thanks Steve. I need a Pentax that will auto-focus with all AF lenses, as do my other AF bodies. People sell the Z1 with third party lenses which work fully so I'm pretty sure there's something wrong with mine. My lenses all work as Auto-Focus on my SFX-n, SF7, MZ60 and of course my K5. This Z1 onl...

ME Super blank negatives

Have you thought that it might be something simple. The film didn't roll on and was left in the can. Operator error which you were looking for. This happened to me many years ago. When you closed the back the end of the film slipped out of the spool but the counter still counted. Result, unexposed...

Pentax LX Unwanted Light

Usually this would be caused by a light leak. It might be a badly fitting back, faulty seals, or excessive light shing into the viewfinder. The viewfinder will allow in loight if tyhe exposure is long enough and the ambient lighting is bright enough. Try again using the viewfinder blind if nec...

Pentax LX Unwanted Light

I may have the answer. I was concerned as the camera was serviced within the last 6 months and so hoped for operator error as opposed to a return to the menders. When I used the winder I purchased recently, that involved taking out a cap at the bottom of the camera and screwing it into the winde...

Pentax LX shutter problem and also batteries

In automatic mode the camera reads the light reflected off the film plane. Assuming you're trying this without film in the camera and the back closed then the meter will be reading what's reflected off of the back which is black, certainley a lot darker than film which is usually a kind of yellowish...

Plunge to film...

Shooting film is actually far, far cheaper than shooting digital. Film itself is not prohibitively expensive, depending on what you buy and where you buy it from. The main thing to remember is: don't buy a single roll at a time, and don't buy it from a high street shop. The one exception to th...

Plunge to film...

I have to say when my son did A level photography a few years back he LOVED the processing and printing of b/w film. He's never had the same love for digital and now tends to take what are best referred to as functional pictures related to his interests. If you want to see someone committed to fi...

Plunge to film...

I use film not because it is cheap, or because it is better, but simply because I enjoy it, partly because I enjoy using older cameras. Somehow the K20D seems soulless. An excellent workhorse, but never as much fun as an SV or the LX, or my Agfa Isolette II or my FED2, let alone the Horizont or th...

Plunge to film...

I have started to go back to film, not as a replacement to digital, but as a compliment to it. Even now in these sharp crystal clear digital age, there is something about film that you cannot quantify. In the studio, a friend of mine, who uses film a lot, had a point by saying shoot digital to get...

Plunge to film...

Does anyone have any experience of a Durst B30 enlarger? I have seen one together with trays, tongs, timer etc for under £40 and it seems like a reasonable deal to me - any thoughts? Durst B30..... Those were the times..... I still have it in its original box, although I have not used it for over...

the argument between film and digital to me unless your a Pro and doing it for a living, is about what enjoyment you get out of it for me personaly I enjoy using both formats and enjoy using film cameras that back in the day I couldn't aford but now I can pick up on ebay for a resonable price. I ge...

Plunge to film...

Yes, I'm sure you're right and if anyone were ever foolish enough to pay me to produce a bill-board size photographs then, no doubt, I'd have to buy a 6x7 film camera. But until then... well, you get the idea. Just a simple amateur taking a few snaps! Many years ago whilst i was still a sprog, my fa...
