GR III Focus speed
First thing K-01 is much bigger, even with 40mm pancake lens. No touch screen, no snap focus and overall is not that fast like GR in all aspect (on/off, AF, intuitive quick menu etc.)

GR III Focus speed
I have the K-01 and Ricoh GR III. I like them both but in use for me they have very little in common. Apparently it is very popular with street photographers. The K-01 and GR III share aps-c sensor form and shake reduction, however the GR has a 24 mp sensor, touch screen, is tiny, easily operated...

GR III Focus speed
Interesting video ..... I have responded to the link to DPreview forum, but for convenience I'll post my response here: I bought a GR III last week and find the autofocus is far far better than that illustrated in the movie clip in this topic here. I have tired it in bright light and low lig...

K3-ll ASTROTRACER
Hi, I have searched through the forum for information on the above but whilst there are a good number of posts on the Astrotracer facility I cannot find specifically what I want. I am off to Grand Canarias in a couple of weeks and am keen to give the Astrotracer a go, hoping for some light pollutio...

K3-ll ASTROTRACER
I guess it really is a case of trial and error. Hopefully I have enough time left to experiment before I have to learn on the job in the field, as it were. I am still curious regarding the focusing question though.. Regards Andrew I know nothing about Astrotracer or astronomy but it seems to me th...

K3-ll ASTROTRACER
In theory infinity is good, but in practice it may not be in focus. Either focus on something distant before it gets dark and note exactly where that is on the lens markings, so you can back to it after dark, or use live view to zoom in on an area and get it in focus. That is actually harder than i...

K3-ll ASTROTRACER
Focusing on a bright star is more than enough for most uses. The lens is usually stopped down anyway for a bit more DoF/leeway. If you must absolutely nail focus then there are things like the Bahtinov mask that can help. Also remember that as your equipment heats up or cools down (winter here) t...

K3-ll ASTROTRACER
I would also add if you are using live view then turn off focus peaking or all you get is noise.

Ricoh GRII and GRIII - a few comments
Having owned the GRII for a few years I was interested to see how the GRIII would improve on the previous model and whether it would be weaker in any aspects. I decided not to jump in right at the start but wait a few months and read some reviews and comments (once the initial over-enthusiastic rev...

Ricoh GRIII with the GW-4 (21mm equivalent) lens attachment
A few months back I posted a sort of mini-review or the GRIII as a comparison to the GRII: https://www.pentaxuser.com/forum/topic/ricoh-grii-and-griii---a-few-comments-63145 At the time I didn't own the wide angle attachment (the GW-4) and didn't really intend to get one, but as I've grown into t...

Adaptors
Using any of the adapters with the Q is fiddly and there's no auto focus available with them either. The standard lens for the Q is 8.5mm. Any K mount lenses around that focal length are pretty bulky and try and go wider! TBH it's best to stick with Q lenses on the Q, they're light and designed f...

Ricoh GRIII set-up for quick use
The AF on the GRIII is pretty fast, and the addition of the touch-screen focus selection makes it very flexible and accurate - but there are times when you want to "snap" really quickly (street shooting for example), so the use of the Snap function means you can simply point and press (full press in...

K3 fail.
Hi. My K3 with fewer than 20k shutter movements gave up recently. Have sent it to Pentax via SRS Microsystems who are awaiting news from Pentax. Apparently they won't allow spares for 3rd party repairers. Anyone else had this problem? Camera worked in the morning and wouldn't switch on in the after...

Pixel shift post-processing
Gareth, I find pixel shift works fine normally in Lightroom but for some reason the ones I took above wouldn't sharpen. There could be a couple of factors, I was using autofocus in live-view in rather poor light and the exposure times were between 1/4 to 1/10 sec so maybe a tiny bit of wobble althou...

Pixel shift post-processing
This is a straight reaction to looking at the images: they appear to have the most amazing textures - almost every grain of sand and tiniest bit of moss. I would expect pixel shift to produce this - detail to the 'n'th degree! However, is all that microscopic detail actually swamping the major detai...

Pixel shift post-processing
Fair point David, these are part of a series exploring how time and the weather are gradually wiping away the lettering, in an analogy of the loss in human memory. The subject matter I want to focus on is the texture, lichens and other growth rather than the full details of the person interred which...

Ricoh Announces Major restructure of Imaging Business...
It has over on the PF site. There's some debate as to whether this will be limited to the Japanese market, but looks like you pre-order a camera body to your own specification then sit back and wait for it to be built. Not sure about how this could work with lenses. For it to work globally the...

Ricoh Announces Major restructure of Imaging Business...
Pschlute, I think there are two reasons for Canon’s move: the China factory is making entry level type cameras which are being wiped out by phones, and secondly Japan’s companies are pulling their production out of China and back into their home territory. I do not think this is a sign of trouble so...

Scuppered by doctor.
Please bear with me, a sad tale. Got a visit to my Doctor (hurrah) severe back pain!. She, "how are you John", Me. "My back is giving me a lot of pain". "well ,lets see"....Hm, are you still lugging that camera around",. Don't like the sound of this, she knows me too well. Just along the river,...

Scuppered by doctor.
Oh dear. Please do as you're told or it might get worse. And make the most of your GR, that iris picture looks pretty good to me! Did you discuss with the doc how you carry your 2lb monster? I sometimes find that carrying a weight to one side or the other is a cause of aches and pains but carryin...
