Back after a long absence

I was here a long time ago before taking a bit of a photographic hiatus, so it seemed only right to re-introduce myself. After a long association with film-era Pentaxes I entered the digital era with a K30 and then the K50. My K30 is starting to show the first signs of succumbing to the aperture blo...

Ah dear. Shame the camera and other lenses didn't turn up too. You did well to spot the ones you did on eBay as one 16-85 looks pretty much like any other. Guess the low life were thinking that and expected no one to notice. Have you reported the theft to your insurance company as those still mis...

Was all insured and got a good payout but nice to get my 2 favorites lenses back. The idiot who stole them sold them the morning after and I had serial numbers so police sorted it out. They got his name and photo ID from the shop he sold them to so hardly the brightest criminal about (warrant issued...

Ironically I work with drug & alcohol uses for the NHS in Bradford so have direct contact with burglars but its still difficult. Had treat myself to a good camera after quitting smoking and now just wondering about replacing with second hand or starting again. Have fortified the door they came in an...

The JPEG file is just an image file, nothing to do with EXIF. It sounds like the program the image is being prepared in isn't saving the orientation properly. There's no issue with images prepared in Photoshop, so Elements and Lightroom should also be fine. EXIF is all to do with jpegs! The exif da...

Hey all

I have some limited experience with the 645, mine was the N version and I liked it very much. My favourite lens was the 35mm - fantastic for landscapes but a little pricey. (the 45 was a disappointment - soft and maybe best avoided). You've probably got the standard 75 which is a fine lens. ...

New to DSLRs

My thoughts on this... 1. Stick it on AV mode 2. Always use spot focus 3. Set the camera to always overexpose by 0.3 of a stop 4. Always stop the lens down a bit for better sharpness 5. Shoot RAW and use DNG not PEF 6. Have the display show the blown highlights area, and aim to expose so tha...

New to DSLRs

You probably haven't a clue what they were talking about "over expose or under expose" and then arguing about it. The basic information about exposure is on page 93 of the manual. It's useful for your right thumb to get used to using the wheel on the back (it controls the exposure). They went on abo...

New to pentax cameras

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. I never had a lot of money back in the 80's and buying a new camera was a big deal with the wages from a YTS scheme in Thatcher's Britain.I remember saving up for a Practica bc1 which i purchased out of Comet in Dudley for about 90 quid ,i think! That was about 5 ...

New to pentax cameras

I think you'll find a recurring theme here ...... We've chosen, or stuck with, Pentax because of the ergonomics, build strength, intuitive controls, good value camera bodies with more features at each price point than the competition.... Plus as you already said, the amazing possibilities for choice ...

Greetings how is life in the realm of Pentax?

There's several incarnations of that. the latest being the DFA28-105 which came out at about the same time as the 24-70. Others go back to film camera lenses which aren't too bad but the DFA is fine. Another, if you have one or come across one is the FA24-90, the last zoom of the film era before ...

K05 vs K50 and change aperture - manual ring

Problem with fixed aperture f8.0 on 500 mm mirror objektiv. How can I change exposure time and get the camera to change ISO according to exposure time. The only way seems to be to manually change ISO. Anyone got another way to do it? M or Tv does not give the possibility to change exposure time ...
