I often wonder how much is shared between this lens and the M 35-70mm. They're of similar dimensions and age, the only difference is that the manual focus version isn't a constant f2.8. Mind you, I suspect that the manual one was intended to be a K series. Dimitrov lists a K 35-70mm f2.8 prototy...

Eric Hendrickson in Tennessee restored my ME F about a year and a half ago. At the time, I didn't have a lens so he couldn't verify the focus confirmation. Since then, I got a lens and unfortunately, the af doesn't work. Other than that, it is spot on. I also have that winder.

The focus confirmation should work with all lenses, to give an idea of which part of the system may be at fault. I know the one I have is scruffy but basically fully functional (if I see a tidy jammed one it will become a tidy fully functional example after a bit of baseplate and focusing screen swa...

This was my first slr. It came with a 50mm f1.7 m series lens. The focusing aid was pretty good it also gave a beep when in focus. After about ten years the exposure became erratic. Took it to repair shop and they swapped the chip out for an ME Super one, but it made no difference except I lost t...

There's something missing from that outfit????..... :? Pentax supplied it with a really rigid rubber push on lens hood  It was also an extension to the lens barrel being the same diameter and giving you more area to grip. Also being quite rigid for MF you could grip the largest d...

What were Pentax thinking, putting the motor in the lens was never going to catch-on :) The left/right arrows were present in the SFX(n) but omitted in the Z-1 and subsequent cameras. They were useful with Pentax lenses but most independent ones focus the 'wrong' way.

Pentax supplied it with a really rigid rubber push on lens hood  I've never seen the hood, I guess it is even rarer than a working copy of the lens! What were Pentax thinking, putting the motor in the lens was never going to catch-on :) The left/right arrows were present in the SFX(n) b...

I tried to buy an AF f2.8 35-70 from a seller on Bumtree - paid £40 for it and got nothing in return. Grrrrr. I am too trusting - lesson learned. Last week I just bought one on ebay to attach to my ME F, at a tad under £45 I thought I did quite well. It arrived yesterday, looks good, but alth...

I've still got my spare one, although I paid £100+ for it and I'm not sure what I'll do with it. Seeing the AF drive the split-image to 'spot-on' focus is interesting but not something you'd want to endure on a regular basis.

I remember when it first came out, I could not believe a lens could focus itself, those days seem like an eternity ago

Dave (of lens sale fame a while back) gave me a dial data back for my LX along with some other bits and pieces. Such a nice man, even if he now uses a Canon... :D K. Taken on a Pentax K20D with a S-M-C Takumar 28mm f/3.5 lens.

It's in the post. I've got three viewfinders but not the ones you are looking for. Have you got the 4P Synch Cord A that plugged into the ugly hole in the front of your LX? Probably not a lot of use without the complementary 400T flash. Yes, I bought one from Gartmore a while back. I can use it ...

My Spotmatic
These pre-K mount things are addictive. I just bought the later type clip-on meter for an S1a/SV in good working condition for a tenner. Always fancied an SV and the meters seem less than common in working order, so a worthwhile diversion from my attempts to complete the items I already have. Must a...

Early SV
I've tried a few shots of ducks on the local lake so far, believe it or not I think they'll come out ok. I find it's best if you meter while approaching the subject with camera hanging around your neck, at the same time setting aperture/shutter. Then just pop lens cap off, focus and shoot. Another l...

In praise of the humble MV1
I have one of each of the MV and the MV1, part of my M series collection. I don't have every variant, but I do have at least one of each M series model. Doesn't the MV/MV1 have the exp.comp. hidden under the ASA dial? K. I think it does, but on the occasions when I've had cause to remove the AS...

In praise of the humble MV1
The error Pentax made was carrying on with screw thread cameras for far too long. Everyone else had long since moved to bayonet. This alienated the press who never came back on the side of Pentax, probably because they had all had to switch systems. Olympus OM cameras had been out for about 5 years ...

In praise of the humble MV1
They were intended to sell SLRs to compact camera users and hence the cut down spec bodies, but of course high quality lenses. After all, even a humble MV will knock spots off any of the common rangefinders of its day, in terms of quality. The ME Super was the best of the bunch, and it's an effic...

In praise of the humble MV1
I'm not sure about ordering it, but I think some of the US versions came with two identical black switches one worked the mirror lock. Going back to the Oly lenses the two push buttons on each lens were brilliant one worked as a stopdown DOF preview the other released the lens for removal muc...
