A*300 f2.8 etc

Well to cut a very long story short I shoot motorsport photos at my local circuit for a weekly magazine during the summer and because I am getting long in the tooth (old) I really did need an auto focus 300 2.8. ( I was using this on an ist D.but manually focusing.) You try to find a pentax one !! U...

A*300 f2.8 etc

Shame on Pentax indeed for not matching the colors of cheapo 2000 to the old glory of 300/2.8! :-) :D As to the noise, I usually stick to ISO 200 as well and yes you can see the difference but it's surprising how little noise you get on 1600 on K20D with little overexposure. This image is straig...

Not just a Program A & a 50mm

No, its my father's Program A and its seen better days. I borrowed it from him last time I went home for Christmas vacations. He still doesnt want to give it to me... I admit I only want it for th 50mm F1.4, I'd rather have an MX... His reluctance is understandable since he paid so much f...

Not just a Program A & a 50mm

My prog A ran into trouble when the shutter release decided to undo itself. Anyway the point of my comment - check the condition of the 'flocked' door seal on the back (this breaks up) & check the condition of the foam mirror shock absorber inside, this also breaks up & spreads peices all round the...

Not just a Program A & a 50mm

I've removed fungus from a couple of 50mm f2s without any problems, and I wouldn't be put off buying an f1.4 with a similar problem although I'm not sure if they're as easy to work on. On the f2s the mould was on the rearmost lens of the front element group and the foremost lens of the rear grou...

Lens Review: Ross Anastigmat 196mm f/8 (on Pentax K10D)

LENS REVIEW - ROSS ANASTIGMAT 196mm f/8 It's a question that's been asked on these forums a thousand times; should I get a new Pentax DA*200 or would I be better off with a Ross Anastigmat 196? Well, it seems the good people at DP Review and Photozone have overlooked testing the Ross, so I though...

Lens Review: Ross Anastigmat 196mm f/8 (on Pentax K10D)

Having done a few lens repairs recently I struggle enough getting 5+6 blade designs back together; my mind boggles at the thought of having to line 16 of them up during assembly - especially as these would have been 100% hand made!

Lens Review: Ross Anastigmat 196mm f/8 (on Pentax K10D)

I enjoyed this week's AP but the thing that suprised me most was the fact they chose to test the Tak on a Nikon DSLR with extra elements for the infinity focus. Considering it could have been used on a Pentax, Canon, Sony or Olympus *without* the need for a glass adapter they hardly gave it a fair c...

Lens Review: Ross Anastigmat 196mm f/8 (on Pentax K10D)

Hefty, I've only just got around to reading this...brilliant article and very nicely written and illustrated. What a gorgeous piece of glass, too. A couple of observation: A) How in the hell did this country manage to produce such a piece of optical engineering way back in Queen Victoria's tim...

Lens Review: Ross Anastigmat 196mm f/8 (on Pentax K10D)

A) How in the hell did this country manage to produce such a piece of optical engineering way back in Queen Victoria's time and now everything we buy is foreign? (sounds like the car and motorcycle industries) Lenses like this would have been hand made by artisans rather than mass produced by machin...

I keep all the boxes

Mine are under my desk in the spare room, very useful especially as I had to send my K20D by to Pentax due to a fault. the only box I don't have is for my MX-5n (lost in the move back from Croydon 6 years ago)

I keep all the boxes

I have few boxes, but by golly that PZ1 box brings back memories. I rem ember trying my Tokina AT-X 28-70 f2.8 zoom on a PZ-1 in a London camera shop in about 1992. I then put the lens back on my trusty P30-T and left the store thinking, ïf it wasn't for this travelling thing, I'd have that lens". A...

The Grandfather of them all

Just got my 1957 Asahi Pentax back from being repaired by Harrow Technical (thanks Robin!). Not quite back to new condition, but not bad for a 52 year old camera :) It's a thing of beauty, so I thought I'd celebrate with a picture: This is the camera that determined what SLR's would l...

The Grandfather of them all

Bit of a late reaction on this one - only just started browsing the forum! That's a beautiful piece of hardware, and an equally beautiful shot of it! My own collection only goes back to 1962 and I'm still looking for a couple of appropriate lenses for that era. Paul.

I refurbished my flight case...

I was lucky enough to pick up a Pentax aluminium case a while back but have never seen another on ebay. I could do with two or three more! K.

A chrome MV1

These seem to be incredibly rare - Dimitrov's Pentax K Mount site lists them as turning up "once in several years". I spotted this on ebay last week for £8: After a good clean, a new back door, and some replacement parts for the winder lever: Apologies for the slight blu...

A chrome MV1

It's not the IQ with this lens Clarky, it's the fact that(as far as I know)it's the only lens that will auto focus on a ME-F body! As for the price, the last one I saw was on the US ebay and went well above £100...
