Good News from Lilly
Hi everyone, Well I am just back from my trip to the RPS in Bath and in a very jubilant mood after being awarded my LRPS distinction on Wednesday 1st April! Apart from the great news that all my hard work has paid off, it was the most illuminating and educational experience to attend the day a...

On-Line Back Up Storage
Does anyone use an on-line back up service? I currently have 18,500+ images which need 15Gb and am becoming increasingly nervous about the possibility of a domestic fire or theft of my laptop containing the files or my two external hard drives. I have looked at one or two on-line sites such as Skydr...

On-Line Back Up Storage
Why not keep an external hard drive elesewhere? I've seen a couple of the on-line services close down and they don't necessarily give much notice to their users. What would happen if thousands of users were given a very short time slot to reclaim their images?

On-Line Back Up Storage
Many thanks for your comments, John. For my situation, I thought that on-line storage would be easier. I wouldn't worry too much if the site closed down (as long as I knew!) as I would keep my existing set up as well. One site even claims that soon, computers will be sold without hard drives as e...

On-Line Back Up Storage
Martin suggested this one to me www.zenfolio.com Not really an online storage but it can be used like that. The only problem is that they only support JPEG, TIFF, PNG and GIF.

On-Line Back Up Storage
In my opinion the online services would be too slow for practical purposes. Normal ADSL lines in Norway have an upload speed of about 400 kbps, so one could easily spend a lot of time waiting for just a few full size pictures to upload. Not to mention the rental costs. For my part, I synchronise ...

What is a long exposure?
Hi all, I've just posted a pic to this weeks competition (Long Exposure) but it occurs to me that my entry might not constitute a long exposure. I thought i'd have a go. I took the photo at 1/20th Sec but I think that in hindsight long exposure might mean over a second. But then what is an "elasped ...

Can't download my pics
Have you tried accessing the camera through 'my computer' it should show as a drive? Try copying the files to the hard drive rather than moving them. If that works format the card in the camera using the camera menu. then see if it's back to normal

Can't download my pics
Try using a card reader to see if that works, if it does then go back to the camera and try again. I only ever use a card reader and always format the card in the camera.

Can't download my pics
Thanks, I've found my pics in drive E although it's not something I've used before so how they got there is a mystery. I'm used to plugging in and being given a choice of what to do and I would normally use a disk or Picasa. If anyone knows how I can undo this drive E-business so I can go back to wh...

If you go more toward the rh side of the frame the cursor changes to "next" I've noticed. You can browse at own pace then. Yes you are right and moving to the left brings up previous. Brian, I think if you stick with this format , you need some guidance notes for users. One further comment , w...

Umm!!! back to the drawing board I think, I did all with Iframes and layers, will have another go tomorrow :( Well, that shouldn't be a problem generally (well, not for my computer at least, I used them for my own, still on the back-burner, ). I just don't understand why the background isn't sho...

Well you are all doing better than me. I get the home page and the pic of the girl, the Brian Lawson text and the t&c link. T&c works and Brian Lawson is a link that takes me back to the same page. Nothing else at all! I'm using Vista and IE7 with Java and Flash installed. Ken

Daniel's example looks nice, but the gallery navigation would still be lost on some monitors - it should be at the top. To be honest though, with that layout it's only going to be a problem with really small monitors, ie. netbooks. If the navigation was at the top of the page, you'd be forever scro...

If the navigation was at the top of the page, you'd be forever scrolling back and forth to view the pictures anyway. At least you would know it was there... Why start by essentially disabling the site?
