That kind of zoom does not come without compromises, if you absolutely cannot live with a two lens setup then you will have to deal with the tradeoffs. I doubt the 18-135 is as bad as it sounds especially compared to 18-200/18-250s around in real life usage.

The 18-135 from Nikon was pretty bad and the 18-200 had plenty of problems too while being quite a beast of a lens.

Buy it s a package with your K-5 if you dont get along with it sell it and get something with less reach (17-70 sounds like a good one) or the excellent for its price 17-50 from Tamron. Doubt you will lose much in terms of cash as the package seems to be a decent price at the mom.

These look good, definitely better than my LX3... Though that is 1/3 of the price too.

Mine is ok so far, no problems. However I have only taken a couple thousand pictures if that. What I was a bit disappointed to find out though is that the paint is coming off a bit too easily ( in backpack while mtbing the south downs one of the corners is losing a bit of the color)

I will buy a d7k down the line when prices fall to sub 500£ but not as a replacement for the k-5

Single point selected by me, works very well.

I bought the 40mm mainly due to size. It is a great lens but if I could only afford 130 as opposed to 250 I'd buy the 35mm 2.4 without hesitation.

It seems that lately cheap 35mm lenses hit all sort of sweet spots! I have kept my D40 only cause the £160 35mm 1.8 from Nikon is absolutely fantastic!

My LX3 just about fits in my jacket pocket, the NEX 5 with a 16mm pancake depends on the jacket, the D40/K5 even without lenses no way, doubt the kx/kr have any better chance.

I am just being selfish really I just want a K-5 in the size of the NEX that's all

GXR might work too actually as long as we can slap some nice limited love on to them!

But that is what I am saying really. Pentax already HAS a lineup of very small very practical excellent quality lenses for decent prices that would suit the size of a smaller format camera whatever you want to call it.

I don't think the Q is the answer to the above question firstly because it needs a brand new set of lenses and second because the size of the sensor means it cannot and will not be competing with those types of cameras. This in no way is a criticism to the Q, it is just saying the Q is not here to compete with the CSC it is here as a stand alone product.

What I am trying to convey is that Pentax already has the advantage over Nikon/Sony/Canon in the fact that they already make feature packed smallish DSLRs and have a great lineup of small lenses. They could use that advantage to push a smaller form of camera.

How very practical, convenient and logical would it be to buy a small K mount camera, get a few lenses for it and when you want something like a DSLR you will buy Pentax cause already have some great lenses for it. To be seems like a no brainer...

Seeing the NEX7 and NEX5n and the C3 from Sony it made me wonder why Pentax does it not do it?

The NEX7 seems to have pushed the price to mid to high end DSLRs territory so a high quality Pentax offering even at the 800-900£ mark is not out of the question while managing to gather quite a lot of interest. What everybody seems to be saying though is that still the NEX7 lacks the lenses lineup especially in the pancake style lenses department.

What I am trying to say is that when it comes to DSLRs no matter how wonderful the K-5 and K-r is Canicon have the market cornered. No question. However there is plenty of room in the still increasing EVIL market.

And Pentax seems to understand a heck of a lot more than Sony about diminutive high quality lenses, ergonomics and construction. Far as I can see there are two pancakes in their lineup, one a bit impractical and not all that well received (16mm) the other a £1000 24mm Zeiss.

As I said in another thread the Q is trying to be a camera line of its own. I don't think there is any intention by anyone at Pentax to compete with NEX/m4/3 with this camera at all. It is just a new type of product.

So as a niche product its price and indeed its future will be determined through demand. It is not an alternative to anything on the market, just a new take on picture taking!
