They've already been on the gallery and one won the "weekly" but I cropped and 'shopped them a bit and they look better printed than on here. These are resized to 1000px versions:

#1 White anorak cropped off from original

#2 Less swans than original posting

#3 Brown curtain removed from original

I entered a photograph in each of the three categories at out village show
and was awarded the following:

Olympics/Jubilee First Place

Open spaces Sunset/Sunrise Second Place

Animals Close up Second Place

Only a local show but a confidence booster all the same, rather like getting a photo accepted on the Gallery.

A miserable wet cheerless day and suddenly a ray of sunshine appears in an old thread. Thank you fatspider

Or you could just drop your equipment from a great height and take advantage of the 20% discount on repairs from Johnstones.
Now why didn't I think of that

People ran (are still running) XP long after its sell by date. I should imagine it will be the same with Win 7. I've read that win 8 locks the computer so dual booting with another system is a pita. I won't be upgrading as I don't have a need fortunately.

Midges are 90% determination and 10% teeth so they WILL get in everywhere

After a dearth of birds I was amazed to see Goldfinches in the garden after having put up a Nyger Seed feeder only 24 hours previously. Haven't got any decent photos mainly because they tend to feed from the "other" side of the feeder, and other more unlikely excuses

Thanks to this thread, I think I will have to invest on the ND filter I saw on Amazon.
And publish your results and what you did I hope

Hi Stan, the best way of focussing I have found is to use Live View. Even with little or no light, Live View presents a pretty good image and enables accurate focussing (BTW, this even works with an Infra-red filter attached which cuts out even more light). With regard to the filter and shutter speed adjustments, I take several test shots and once happy with the exposure I leave it as is. The histogram is vital for this as it is very easy to overexpose the relatively brighter areas if you are not careful.

David
Thanks David. I'll have to get down to the seaside again and have a play. Watch this space for some stunning images (in my dreams) I have an IR filter somewhere too but thought I'd read they didn't work well on modern cameras (K7 K5 etc). I know some members have had an *ist modified for IR. I'm probably only remembering half the story though. I'll take the IR filter with me on my next trip. And spare batteries as I'm told live view can use them up quickly
Thank goodness for digital, on my K7 shutter count is 3692, how much would that have cost in film.
