How very queer !! I checked the receipt again and it did say 50 1.8 - just been into the drawers of treasure and found a 1.4 50mm - I`ll have to email Uckfield and see what Emma has on the ES.

Well spotted axl - but if you consult Cecchi pp 96-97 there WAS a 50mm f 1.8 SMTAK six elements and f/16 minimum aperture between 1971 & 1975

I`ve just dug out my receipt for the ES11 from Camera Warehouse 25/11/91 complete with 50mm f 1.8 £99.00 - cracking camera and lens and my daughter has the ES with 55mm f2.0

Interesting one - I tend to go for zooms these days and I still think my 75-300mm 1:4.5-5.8 Pentax AL FAJ is the all round winner.
Apart from the initial cost which was really a steal ( new,BNIB,old stock )it is also very light in handling and with a 28-55 and a teleconverter is all the kit I need on a day when I`m not sure what`s going to present itself.
My Sigma 28-300 is a cracker but not very light and wobbles without a tripod when at the long end.The 70-300 Sigma APO Macro Super is comparable in weight and has the macro facility though.

Hi mattox - just read your post - I join all the other contributors in wishing you safe journey and best wishes.
I agree that a good P&S would be the most sensible idea - portable,concealable and multi use without the worry of lenses and other bits of kit.Batteries and memory can take up the weight of lenses and be more useful in that situation.

Interesting that no-one seems to have used/had the magnificent Pentax auto 110 system as their first camera - I know my uncle had one and loved taking shots with it as he travelled around Peru.I still have one of the lenses ( 24mm F/2.8 ) the rest of the system was stolen whilst he was dying in hospital.The size is staggeringly small compared with the lenses of the usual SLR and it must have been a perfect "pocket camera".
