Yesterday I was lucky enough to be invited to a workshop day by Kase filter systems. At a location in Derbyshire. To take some shots and have a general play about with their peoducts. Except for the fact that the weather was atrocious with torrential rain and high winds. I was then told that they didn't have any available filters to fit the DFA 15 30. Which was a tad dissapointing as we previously had to list the lenses we wanted to take So they could arrange the filters. So in effect the day was ruined. So all that aside. I Just wanted to know if we had any users of this lens on the site and what filter manufacturers they are using ?

As someone who does a large amount of street photography. I feel I have to offer my two peneth here. There has already been some fantastic advice given. Don't try new lenses before trying what you have. Is the correct thing to do.. Try before you buy kind of thing. So firstly, I certainly think that for "Street" togging. You can primarily use any lense length you like. Even a mobile phone will work well. But if you break it down into what you want to shoot. If thats people in there day, Are you going to pose them ? Then this can make a false image as they tend to change attitude and pose. So a longer lens may help to keep the subject unaware. I find in smaller towns many folks dont like having their pic taken. I usually find in the city when shooying buildings you cant always get far enough away to capture with a medium length lens. Faster lenses will help your images not look too busy and will isolate the subject. I would recommend using just one lens per outing as it can be a pain keep changing lenses from wide to long to get the right image. So "Zooms" are my first choice. As modern day zooms produce just as good an image as primes. And you can lose a shot with primes while moving to get the right composition. My usual choice is K1 with DFA 24 70 f2.8, It's also a good idea to learn the technique of shooting from the hip.. Good luck with your ventures.

If you notice how much technology has changed in the mobile phone world in the last 15 or so years. the advances are imeasurable. The advances in the dslr world not so much. The better camera phones will now match any camera in the Pentax range, these days as a walkabout camera. Certainly surpass them in term of video quality. They certainly gain as a back pocket always on hand item. But possibly lose out in long lens capability and studio flash capability. Though I'm sure this tech will come in the future.
I think the toll bell has been ringing on Dslr's now for a while. As themajority of the youth of today arnt interested in Purchasing them.

I think from memory (pardon the pun) That the card write speed on the K5 is 80mb. So its pointless wasting your hard earned, on faster spec cards. 32GB class 10. is more than enough capacity in this camera. Though I would always carry a spare one. As said previosly Sandisk are a good card. Though the market is flooded with fake Sandisk cards. Most of the main brands are good. Integral "Ultima" are my personal favourites.

Yes I own a copy of one in PK mount. Produced high quality images. Was my favourite lens for portraits. Until one day I used it at the beach for some seascapes.. Something entered the internals of the lens and locked it solid.. Was to expensive to repair...

One of the missing lenses In the Pentax FF range line up. I feel. is an all round cheap "Walkabout" lens. Something you can almost permantly leave on the camera. Say a cheapish 18-250 f4 - f6.3. It would be nice to see an updated Pentax version. Rather than having to resort to the older no longer produded third party offerings..

David is correct... A lovely result. But, It's painfully slow, I own a 32Gb machine and still takes upwards of twenty minutes per image for the large K1 files.

When I had trouble last year with my K1. I contacted J Pye who gave me a quote. But openly said, If I sent it to them it wouldn't get touched for three months at the earliest. As they have to prioritise warranty repairs, first. The quoation wasnt exactly cheap. So I looked around for an alternative, After three repairers each charged a fee for a quote, To be deducted from the final invoice. Which they kept when they couldn't get hold of replacement parts. SRS said they would forward it to J Pye, and Wex who I purchased it from wouldn't touch it. Seemed like Ricoh had created a closed shop. After scouring the internet and a few more refuseals. I stumbled across "1staid repairs" i contacted Jon there. Who firstly checked he could obtain the part required. And gave me a quote. Emailed me to say the part had arrived with them and the repair would be completed in the following few days... Did a great job in the end.
