Hi Steve,

Thanks for the warm welcome.

I have tried to stay away from the digital as it makes me a bit too lazy and I get snap happy. I wanted to try and get the hang of the basics of good photography first and using film forces me to think a little more before I press the button.

Regards
PaulM
I agree with your approach, however in my case the need for instant gratification grows stronger by the day.

I have owned my Super A from new. For me it looks and feels right. I have an MZ6, which is a better camera in many ways, but it never generates the same feeling. For the reason you describe above whenever I want to be creative it is the Super A that I reach for. The MZ6 is really only used to take 'snaps'

I doubt he even knew the tortoise was there eventually he dived under and when he re-appeared the tortoise was gone.
So i will leave it up to your imaginations as to the outcome

Lilly what would be a good comment to put in that speech balloon :
How about " can't you go any faster"

It is always a difficult decision. One of the reasons impoting from the US is cheaper is because of the buying power over there. Stocks and prices will not get better over here if everyone buys from over there.

Kim
The UK dealers will never have the same buying power as their US counterparts.
Things are unlikely to change while manufacturers continue to employ regional pricing practices.

The difference now is that the Internet has exposed those practices like never before.

I echo the sentiment, a great reference, which I regularly consult before a Pentax purchase

Here's to the next 10 years

Mmmmm, so why am I getting messages telling me that USB 2.0 would be better?
I'm going to have to look into this a little more
If the laptop does indeed have USB 2, check out the manufacturers website, they may have some updated drivers, that might fix the problem, Windows is supposed to do this automatically, but it maybe that the manufacturer did not bother to get the drivers verified.

OK, I'll admit that I'm a Techno-Dolt!
I plugged something into the PC last night and up popped a message about things would be faster with USB 2.0; what the heck is USB 2.0?
Then I noticed on a site I was mulling over that they had items for sale that were 'USB 2.0 compatable'; why am I not USB 2.0 compatable? I want to be USB 2.0 compatable......please help!
To avoid future problems I would recommend buying a dedicated USB 2 card. This will plug into a PCI slot and be much more reliable.
Windows XP and especially Vista can have problems recognising some USB devices attached to motherboard USB ports.

You can find them on Ebay for less than £5

I have experienced the same problem myself in trying to source replacement springs.
In my case I managed to get hold of some fine wire and made my own sprongs, by twisting the wire around a sewing needle. Not perfect, but good enough to do the job.

If you want something more authentic, you could perhaps contact one of the repairs shops and ask if they would sell you a quantity.

It occurs to me that if you do track some springs and balls down, then maybe some members of this forum might be interestd in a joint purchase.

I went to the local camerastore to try it out. I was very excited.

Something funny happened in the store. I came home with the Pentax K10D

Initial I thought - damm that guy was a good at sales.....Why did I end up with this camera - a camera I didn't think of before I went out to buy one.

Now - a few months later - Im extremely pleased I picked the K10D. I have talked with the shop where I bought the camera several times. They are very happy about the Pentax K10D, and they love the build quality - mainly because the Canikon keeps crashing

Well - thats just my story.

Now I just have to control the LBA!!!!
WOW an assistant who knows what there talking about. Maybe a famous UK chain could ask him/her over to train their staff

It makes a good deal of sense. Contract out the kit/wide range zooms and concentrate on the high quality lenses in house. Helps developement costs as well

Kim
Makes good sense and and it may not stop with the kit /wide range zooms.
I would expect to see much closer ties with the Hoya group and also Samsung.
It makes sense to concentrate on what you do best, glass, coatings and design, it does not really matter who assembles the lenses as long as they are built to Pentax standards.

As for a new DSLR I am still hopeful of an announcement in time for the holiday season, though I believe that this maybe less likely now due to the continuing strong sales of the K10D.
Even so I expect some good deals are likely to be had as Pentax try to attract P&S upgraders
