John, I would interested to know your findings with the 16-45
It looks as though it will be useable from about 19mm onwards on a film SLR. I've yet to try it properly, but the vignetting as seen in the viewfinder seems to clear up at about that point.
Thanks john
That is interesting, I am considering getting a DA 16-45 but would need to sell a couple of other lens to help finance the purchase. If the Da 16-45 is OK at 24mm on 35mm film, it would certainly ease the pain.

I've just been checking out the DA lenses on a film SLR and, visually through the viewfinder at least, they all seem fairly promising at the middle to long end of their zoom range.

At the widest setting they all vignette horribly, but taking the 12-24mm as an example, by 14mm it's starting to cover the full frame.

Considering that so many camera club judges keep suggesting burning-in the corners of prints, we could be on to a winner here!

For anyone who is still confused the link below is well written and what is more has a nifty little depth of field calculator.

Are some brands much brighter than others? Could we have some sort of straw poll of monitor brands/models and whether the noise is visible?
The noise is equally noticeable on both my Toshiba laptop display and the 19" Dell LCD on my office desktop.
I can see the noise on both my 19" LG Flatron LCD and IBM Thinkpad screens

Could I trouble you (or someone else that sees the picture as noisy) elaborate a little on what you're seeing? (Here's a link to it again so that you don't have to trawl back through the entries.)
The picture does look quite noisy on my monitor

Thanks guys fo the comments. I am told that the squirrel was fronting up a cat in shot 3. Did not see it myself, but apparently it raised its tail and started making a barking kind of sound. The cat always one for a quiet life just got up and walked off .
