To quote from my MZ6 manual in Auto PIcture mode the camera selects a Picture Mode depending on the camera to subject distance and the image magnification.

You may find that a cheaper option is to buy another camera.
There are many Pentax cameras to be found on Ebay

I too have noticed the increase in recent prices on eBay.
When I bought my K100D Super in early Nov I got all my old manual lenses serviced and cleaned, and also started looking on eBay for some lenses. I actually some real bargains and bought some lenses I didn't really want, which I have sold for about 50% more since the new year.
So now I have stopped buying, as bargains are harder to find.
Considering I am on a very tight budjet, I have inreased my useful inventory at a profit!
Makes me wonder how common this is.
It has also caused me to reassess my approach to lenses. I have always considered them to have a certain permanance and value. Now I am starting to think limited life, depreciation and replacement planning.
Aplogies for wandering off topic

Because of the smaller image circle of DA lenses it is almost certain that all Prime DA lenses will show at least some degree of vignetting
A slightly different story applies to DA zooms. The amount of vignetting varies across the zoom and aperture range.
As Mac has indicated the DA 18-55mm vignettes quite badly at 18mm but is OK from 24mm. So you could have a pretty decent 24-55mm short zoom for a very cheap price. I believe Park Camera still offer them for £29.
Others on this forum have had success with the DA 16-45, see the link to Mattmatics findings (Matt I hope you don't mind me providing this link?)

My recommendation would be to go along to a reputable Pentax dealer and ask if you can fire off a few shots with different lenses before making a decision. In the end the level of vignetting that is acceptable is your decision
