There are four ways to deal with perspective problems:

1 Shoot from far away with a longish lens
2 Use a perspective control lens
3 Use post-processing.
4 Shoot straight ahead with a wide lens, and crop the foreground.

1 is often not possible
2 is expensive
3 leads to a loss of quality
4 also leads to loss of quality (you have to enlarge more).

On balance, I prefer 4.

Thanks again, all advice gratefully received - Steve

Impressive place. So much to see, so little time.

AS for C&C, you probably didn't have the opportunity, but shooting earlier or later in the day would have given you kinder light.

And when taking pictures of large buildings up close, include a lot of foreground that you can crop out later. That will improve the perspective.

Thanks for the comments George, we were staying about 90 minutes away, so even with an early start, the sun was high in the sky by the time we got to the plaza. Tried to talk the family into staying late, but it was 43'C in Seville that day and after 3 hours of following me around they demanded that I take them to the Ocean to cool down.

I did include quite a bit of foreground in the original shots, maybe I have cropped too tight. I spent quite a bit of time with post processing to sort perspective, still have a lot to learn.

Seville is a wonderful city, so much wonderful architecture and history. I hope to go back one day, when the the temperature is a little cooler and hopefully a wider angle lens

I am no expert, but from my experience, if the the subject is absolutely static, then taking five images can produces the best results. If there is any movement, then taking combining multiple exposures from a single image works best for me.

Sorry to see you go Jonathan, as a pentax community this one is head and shoulders above the rest, but I understand your frustration.

I too will look elsewhere, simply because viewing the current layout for more than 5 minutes hurts my eyes and yes I am the wrong side of 50

Ok so now the messages have re-sorted into correct order

I really don't like this at all. I find the colour combination is a strain on the eyes and the browsing experience has suddenly become more difficult and far less enjoyable. A big step backward in my opinion, which will probably result in me spending less time browsing the forum.

Hi Steve, Dan came round a month or two ago and tried a few of the lenses on his K10 and they seemed to work ok. Without actually trying a body for a few days however it's hard to say. Of course I've left it a bit late for a K10 now unless I buy one in Argos for £450 but then I don't expect that they would take it back if it didn't focus with every lens.

The ones that work and don't

Didn't do well are the
FA24-90
FA77mm
FA35 F2

Ok if you watch that it's actually focused
FA50 Macro
FA135
FA28

Mostly ok
FA50
FA100

Always ok
DA16-45
DA18-55 kit lens
I read the earlier thread, so I was aware that the troublesome lenses appear to work fine on the K10. Of those on your list I have FA35, FA50, and the 18-55 kit lens and as expected they work fine on my K10D. I also have a FA28-70, which you have listed for sale and this also works fine ,in fact I have yet to fit a lens that did not work.

It would be interesting to hear of other DS experiences with these lenses. Any DS users out there that can help John solve this problem

Just came across this item on ebay only 20 minutes left, and it would be expensive once import have been paid http://tinyurl.com/666nfa

It's a bit chicken and egg, I might buy a new body and that might not be any good either or I might find some work and some don't like the DS.
At least trying your lenses on a different DS, would identify if it is a DS problem or just your example. Is there no one local to you with a DS to compare against?

I used the DS last week for some important pictures and they were all back focused using the FA24-90 so I thought not much point keeping the lenses that don't work and I didn't fancy paying £700 for a body I don't like much.
I am interested to know, which lens do work, maybe a list of those that do and don't might help others with a DS to comment.

I understand your reluctance to move onto a K10 or 20, but the DS won't last forever, and many of the lens that you mention are no longer made. I would have thought that it will be much more expensive in the long term to replace them than getting a replacement for your DS, if indeed it does need replacing.
