John not that this helps, but a colleague suffered a similar problem when using a wide screen Thinkpad (I can't remember the resolution) and a Panasonic XGA projector. He too was running Vista OS. He worked out settings that gave a half reasonable display, but as you say they did not 'stick' and had to be reset on every use.

Lenovo tech support failed to help and he exchanged the laptop for a standard screen version.

In my understanding the exposure problems associated with pre 'A' series lens are related to two changes Pentax have made over the years.

http://www.bdimitrov.de/kmp/index.html explains it well. Specific links are given below

1. Linear operation of the diaphragm actuator http://tinyurl.com/5dunpy

2. The 'crippled' KAF mount http://tinyurl.com/5tkksr

It is possible to convert a 'M' series lens to a KA mount. I did this by putting a PKA lens mount with the appropriate contacts on a 'M' 28mm lens. If you leave the aperture ring set to f22 then the K10 will think it is a PKA mount 28mm. However the exposure problems you describe with smaller apertures remain due to the change in diaphragm actuator operation.

Shot this morning, not a great background, but I think the 31Ltd did well with the concrete

Hi David, I don't have a DS myself, but a look at the Pentax website informs that SD-HC support was added with version 2.01 of firmware. The current version 2.02 is claimed to offer improved support for the same.

I use the same Sandisk cards and have found them to be extremely reliable on my K10. You will need to have at least version 2.01 firmware installed on the DS for the camera to recognise them

As for the Lexar card, have you carried out any checks on that, ie can you read and write to it from a computer? If you can then the card should be OK and it may be a camera issue.

Thanks for the feedback Don, these were impromptu shots from the top of a small 'bell tower' with no space, or time for an elaborate setup, as there were plenty of other tourists trying to shoot the same.

I think Photomatix has its uses, but the lesson I have learned is that I cannot use a set of standard settings, as I do with 95% of the time with Silkpix and expect to get good results. The program needs more time and understanding.
