The cap is now free and will be winging its way to Chris tomorrow. A blast with an hair dryer loosened it up nicely. I would not recommend this method on a working camera, but the camera in question is non working and only kept for parts.

Does anyone have a spare silver film lever cap, the one that sits on the retaining screw of the film lever on the top plate. I can do a low value swap for something or a little cash or give something into the Pentaxuser community.
I might have one that you can have. I will take a look and let you know tomorrow.

Much appreciated.
The good news is that I have one of these that you can have. At the moment it seems reluctant to unscrew and I do not want to use grips that might mark it. I will try a little heat later, if you send me a pm with your address I will send it you.

Ah, it was a Jpeg file, when I edited a .DNG file it gave me Pentax as an option and worked like it should

So why can Pentax only be used in RAW as the other camera brands still list in Jpeg form so presumably lens correction can be used for either RAW or Jpeg for them :
Profiles can be created for RAW or JPG files and maybe for a Combination of both. If you search the 'net' you will find that there are some user created filed that work specifically on JPGs.

The Pentax profiles that became available after the last update are RAW specific. I am guessing that with limited resources Pentax engineers focused their efforts on RAW, as they know the RAW shooters post process, whereas not all all JPG shooters do.

I have never used a profile designed for another brand , but I do wonder if there is a compromise in effectiveness, when using a Combination (RAW +JPG) profile?

Ok, weird! Downloaded some profiles and cut and pasted them into the adobe Pentax file where it said to put them (I saw all the *DA lenses in there). Goes back into Lightroom, then into develop and to lens profiles but in the drop down box I have everyother make apart from Pentax?
On my system CS5 and LR3 put lens profiles in different places.

You can create your own Gareth. Don't ask me how though

Smeggy's link in the post above yours has user created profiles. There is a 16-45 profile amongst them
Adobe have a lens profile creator program available for free download from their website. There is also a useful user guide available, which walks you through the process. Relatively easy for a fixed focal length lens, provided you have a good tripod and access to an A3 printer to print out the test charts.

do you specifically need A3? I thought you could use A4 sheets and reposition the sheet on the wall and take multiple shots?

Could be wrong though.
Never tried it, but surely more susceptible to error?

There are copies of the Pentax kit lens hoods and also the DA 55 - 300 hood available quite cheaply on eBay. It might be worth getting one, if your lens is one of those, just for the pop out window. If the pop out does not fit, you will still have a functioning hood for a relatively low cost.

I find the books by Martin Evening to be very well written and well laid out.

The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 Book: The Complete Guide for Photographers

Adobe Photoshop CS5 for Photographers: A professional image editor's guide to the creative use of Photoshop for the Macintosh and PC

A Google search will through up lots of free online tutorials and there is some useful information available on the Adobe site.

For learning more unusual techniques, I often buy 'out of date mags' complete with CS5/LR3 tutorials for a £1 from our local market.
