I have just been doing some very rough and ready tests using the new firmware on a K5 MK1.

I tested out focusing speed and accuracy using DA* 16-50, DA* 50 - 135 DA 55-300 FA*31 Ltd FA35, FA50.

Tests were carried out hand held, outside in quite bright light and then again inside in a pretty dark north facing room.

For focusing accuracy I compared regular AF with results obtained using Liveview.

All lenses were used at maximum aperture.

1. My perception is that all the lenses were locked more quickly.
2. All my lenses needed some adjustment to the plus side to match the LV result.
3. DA* 16-50 and FA 50 were sharper wide open than I ever managed to previously obtain. I compared results obtained on the K10 and it really was like night and day.
4. For whatever reason the updated K5 struggles with the FA31 Ltd. There is a lot of variability, especially with shots taken indoors.

As I said this was very rough and ready. The method needs to be tightened up, along with a more detailed analysis, but so far the results look quite promising.

Mike, if you are travelling down the motorway, there is a Travelodge rignt next to J22 Markfield turn off.

Close by in Coalville there is the Snibston Discovery Park http://www.leics.gov.uk/snibston.htm
It is well worth a visit if you are into Industrial history. They have changed their policy several times over the years regarding taking pictures of the exhibits, so if you planned to go, it would probably be best to contact them first regarding what is / is not allowed.

Also close by is Bradgate Park, which is the ancient home of Lady Jane Grey. Besides the ruins of the house, there is the opportunity to photograph the wild deer, that roam freely.

Interesting that contrast AF ( through sensor ) has needed a FW tweak for the 'mortgage requiring' DA 560mm
Quite, I doubt there's many here that will see the benefit of this update. I'm not sure that the lens is even available yet.
I equally doubt that the reasons given are the sole reason for the update. I would suspect/hope that improvements to the firmware found in the K5 mark 2 have been incorporated.

Hello Andy,

I have one which I would sell albeit somewhat reluctantly, for probably the same reasons as womble will take his to the grave.

I've owned it from new having bought it from Wildings in Chorley, Lancs. I still have the original boxes for both the camera and FA1 finder, even the original purple Pentax cleaning cloth (still sealed in cellophane) that shipped with these cameras. It comes with a dedicated Pentax LX leather case which itself has two separate detachable fronts, one for a standard lens and one for a longer telephoto lens. The former I don't think has even been on the camera and again comes in the original box.

It is in excellent condition with just a slight amount of brassing on the depth of field preview button and a tiny graze to the top of the viewfinder. I had it fully serviced at Harrow (I've still got the receipt somewhere which I will provide) about four years ago at the cost of over £96.00 so no sticky mirror syndrome and I've not used it since apart from putting £6.00's worth of new batteries in at Christmas when I had a thought of selling it then. I will also include a pristine copy of Geoffrey Crawley's book, 'Pentax LX system' Price-wise I'm thinking £225.00 plus postage which I think is more than fair considering what some are being sold at, but you decide!

As I said above, this is a reluctant sale, but, the fact is I've simply not been using it and it seems wrong to horde it when someone can use it as it was intended. I've always felt the LX is the most beautiful and tactile camera Pentax ever made! I wonder what other LX owners think?

Anyway, If you are interested let me know and I'll do some photo's of the package for you.

Regards...

PS I hasten to add that it's a standard black version not a tacky gold one... lol...
Defragged, you have a pm.

Hoe about sometime in early Spring , say the middle of March? Things should have started to green up a little and if it rains, it ought to be a little warmer.

This is a Takumar, but you can see the 3 screws. On this

The A Series doesn't have a beauty ring so the front
might be held by grubsrews into the body.

I think the A35 F2.8 is similar to the A50 F1.7. The plain plastic ring that sits between the front element and the filter ring can be removed to reveal the three screws that have most likely worked loose.

If you want to go the cheap route consider either :

67mm plastic 'petal' lens hood
67 extendable/collapsable rubber lens hood.

Both can be purchased for around £5 delivered on eBay, may not be perfect but at that price worth a try.

Alternatively there is the Pentax PH-RBM 67mm Lens Hood, which is standard kit on the DA 17-70mm. It is about half the price of the 67mm PH-RBL. Again might not be perfect, but worth looking at, if you live close to a Pentax dealer.
