Hi all, I didn't know that there is a fortnightly competion, is it open to all? I couldn't see it under the competitions tab along with the weekly comps.
Thanks
Caz

HiAnvh, I'm inclined to the agree with Mike. It's a good effort under the circunstances, without a tripod & with such a long. lens. But! this is a shot that cried out for a tripod & a lower ISO. I also have a K10D & 1600 seems far more than I'll ever need. The image isn't in focus & that is the main reason why you can't fix it. Could you go back & try the shot again? That would be my suggestion & this time I'm sure you would be more prepared. It would be a loverly shot if you can get it right, I can see what you were going for & this could be a cracking shot. I love the subject matter.

Well they would say that wouln't they? It all depends on the motherboard. If your motherboard supports a dual channel architecture then it will benefit from a matched pair, other it will be a waste of money. As a tip allways place the largest RAM chip in the first slot if you are not using a matched pair otherwise some older motherboards detect the lower value RAM first & even if they report the correct RAM the Pc may not be able to use it all to it's full potential. There are exceptions to this but as general rule it works.

Surely you arn't implying that this is a free country as long as you do what you are told, are you? Common sense & a notion of right & wrong is all that is needed. Big bother can work two ways. If we tolerate so called safety cameras & CCTV (read Networked Digital Cameras that link into all sorts of other systems) all over the place just becuse they are to "fight crime" then maybe this is as much about in whose hand the lens is in as it is the images captured. I can't see a time when photography is banned. Banning things tends to make them more popular. There are a lot of mobile phones out there with the facility to caputre images.

I do take your point & it's very valid. I'd hate to live somone where I couldn't take pictures without fear of punishment. But is there a line in the sand? What about looking in through windows for instance? Google does this. Perhaps it seems ok to us when it is a celeb but it is less appealing when it is your own front room. I think that there is a difference between photo journalism or reporing for instance & generally being nosey. I'm not sure that a restriction on Google would naturally mean as restriction on others. But hey! it's good to have open discussion. Hardgravity you have certainly prompted debate & that should be seem as a good thing in a democratic country.

I'm not in favour of Street View as I think it does invite spying from the comfort of your own home & takes the availability of images to a new level. For instance you can see into gardens, somethng that previously you would have to get on a ladder to do. I'm sure people would be entitled to ask questions when a photograher is acting suspicious & rightly so. But that's a long way from taking street pictures occcasionaly in full view. I see what has happened recently as a good thing. Otherwise who watches the watchers?

Hi Matt,
I take on board your comments on the grads but I didn't have any to hand at the time & be be honest I wanted to try my hand at a more raw effect. I did use a tripod but given the location it wasn't an easy shot to obtain. My husband did comment on how close to the edge I was, but then sometimes you need to take a little risk to get the right perspective. I'm stil none the wiser about what is considered a long exposure. Perhaps it is subjective. Mmmmm.... Shall I pull my entry or leave it in?
Thank you for your kind remarks. My dad was a professional photoghapher & always very critical of my efforst so it's nice to hear someone give positive feedback other than my husband.

Hi all, I've just posted a pic to this weeks competition (Long Exposure) but it occurs to me that my entry might not constitute a long exposure. I thought i'd have a go. I took the photo at 1/20th Sec but I think that in hindsight long exposure might mean over a second. But then what is an "elasped time" exposure? I'd appreciate your views. Also should I take my entry back, does it qualify or not? I won't be offended if everyone thinks my photo dosn't qualify. Its just a case of finding my feet. It will just mean I get to go off & take some more photo's.
Thanks

Thank you ttk. I've my Pentax a while now. Nearly bought a Nikon but the rugged build of the K10D & the grip worked better for me. Most of the shops I went to wanted to sell me a small, light camera. One even said that the K10D isn't a camera for girls. Can you belive that? I guess it was having a Zenith that got be used to prefering something with a bit of weight. I think that sometimes too light can be less stable. We travel a lot & having a go anywhere SLR that I don't have to hide away if it tips it down is a bonus. I only stumbled on this forum by chance. It's nice to be welcomed.Caz
