Hi Kevan, WELCOME... To the forum. I joined relatively recently myself & I must say that everyone I've come across on here has been very helpful & very friendly. It has added a new dimension to my efforts.

Goodness I can't believe that this thread is still running. BTW thank you for the tip about the spell checker in Firefox Gwyn, it's very helpful to me. There was never any doubt in my mind that common sense would win out in the end. Now I do feel comfortable in this new social group.
Thanks for making me welcome & I shall look forward to taking part in many more discussions.

I didn't realise there had been an issue before. That's what comes of being a newbie. Maybe the lower limit suggested (10 posts) is more realistic.

This does sound like a good idea but to exclude a whole swathe of people that don't have over 50 posts seems a bit exclusive & doesn't send the right signals to newer members. Could second Oggy's suggestion, make it members only?

Ok, yes that's fair enough.

Do I read this right? Can I now upload pictures taken on another of my cameras? I often carry a smaller camera in my bag but it isn't always a pentax. The K10D is just a little too large & heavy for my handbag. For me the spirit of photography is in the skillful use light & image. The kit used is secondary, although I am a Pentax fan otherwise I wouldn't have gone with Pentax. It isn't the camera that makes the photograph its the person behind the lens.

Hi Rbubbly, my husband is left eyed & right handed & just finds it awkward to use the viewfinder as it is off set to the left. This means that you also loose the ability to scan the image with the right eye as the body of the camera gets in the way. His right eye is less good at focusing but ok for general view. I don't think I'm expressing myself very well. Maybe there is an add on that would allow the viewfinder to angle?

Thank you all. I've turned the SR off & as Joe S said it no longer asks for the FL. I'll give it a go as soon as I get a chance. Looks like fun....

Hi all,
Thanks that's very helpful. I have now set the FL to 50mm. I'm still not sure I understand why the DOF would remain as 50mm. Still it does seem to be a nice clear optic. I must admit I'm not sure how this is going to work out but it's worth a shot as they say. After all a 75mm prime lens would cost much more. I clearly have much to learn.
